Does the 4in2 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 fit the Acura RSX Type S?

Spoon registers the 4in2 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 only on the Japanese Integra Type R and the EP3 Civic Type R with the K20A. Go Tuning sells it for the DC5 and EP3 from 2002 to 2006, but neither source names the RSX Type S engine, so BA will confirm a US car with the distributor first.

Is it the same part for the Integra and the Civic?

Yes. The DC5 Integra Type R and the EP3 Civic Type R use the same K20A engine with a 6-speed manual, and Spoon lists one part number for both across 2001 to 2006. There is no separate Civic version to choose between.

Should I buy the Spoon 2in1 section as well?

For most owners, no. Spoon says the factory 2in1 is well designed and keeps a broad torque band, so replacing it gains nothing on the street. Spoon recommends its own 2in1 only for circuit cars that spend their time at high rpm.

Why does Spoon favour a 4-2-1 design?

Naturally aspirated Honda engines make relatively little torque low in the rev range. A 4-2-1 layout supports that range better than a short collector, which is why Spoon builds this manifold to merge into two pipes and then hand over to the factory 2in1 rather than to a single collector.

Does the car need a tune?

No. No tune or supporting part is listed for this manifold by Spoon or Go Tuning, and it runs with the factory engine management. Spoon publishes no power figures, so BA does not claim a horsepower gain. A later tune remains possible, but the part does not depend on one.

Description

Spoon Sports 4in2 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 Honda Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports 4in2 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R fits both of the early K20A Type Rs, since the two cars share the same 2.0L engine. It is the primary half of a 4-2-1 system: four pipes merge into two, and the factory 2in1 section carries on from there. Spoon recommends that pairing from its own testing, because naturally aspirated Hondas are light on low-speed torque and the production 2in1 is cleverly built inside, holding a wide torque band. Spoon does sell its own 2in1 for these cars, yet it advises that the swap pays off only for circuit cars that live at high rpm. Every Spoon exhaust manifold is joined to its flange with an insert method that leaves no step at the port, then TIG welded by hand, and the lighter part eases load on the front axle. For a DC5 or EP3 that sees fast road driving and occasional track days, this manifold with the factory 2in1 is the combination Spoon would choose.

Features

Shared fitment across the K20A Integra and Civic Type R
Four primaries merging into two for a 4-2-1 layout
Step-free joint at each exhaust port
TIG welded and hand assembled
Reduced weight over the front axle

Applications

Honda Civic Type R: EP3 | 2001-2005 | 2.0L K20A
Honda Integra Type R: DC5 | 2001-2006 | 2.0L K20A

Notes

Spoon registers the 4in2 Exhaust Manifold for DC5 on the Integra Type R and EP3 Civic Type R with the K20A; the US Acura RSX and EP3 Civic Si carry the K20A2 and K20A3 and are not on its list
The manifold joins the factory 2in1 section; the Spoon 2in1 for these cars is sold separately and meant for circuit use
Spoon lists the manifold at 5 kg

The company has raced Hondas from its first season, when Ichishima’s own Civic became the first Civic to enter the Japan Touring Car Championship, and its Type One workshop, opened in 2001, services and tunes the cars its parts are developed on. Spoon builds engine, drivetrain, exhaust, chassis and aero parts for Honda models and proves them on circuits and in endurance racing, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
