Is the 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for FD2 a good street upgrade?

No. Spoon says the factory 2in1 already gives the FD2 a wide torque band thanks to its internal design, so the 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for FD2 adds nothing on a road car. It is meant for sedans that spend most of their running time high in the rev range on a circuit.

Can it be combined with the Spoon 4in2 manifold?

Spoon makes both parts for the FD2 but publishes no statement on pairing them. Its guidance is that road cars should keep the factory 2in1 behind the 4in2, and that this section is worth fitting only for high-rpm circuit use. BA can check the pairing with the distributor.

What causes a torque loss after changing manifolds?

According to Spoon, it is often a matter of combining parts whose behaviour differs from the factory pairing rather than a fault in any one part. Careful parts selection, guided by how and where the car is driven, avoids most of the problem.

How heavy is the section and how is it packed?

Spoon lists the 2in1 section at 4 kg, and it ships in a compact box of 60 x 22 x 26 cm. That makes it easy to handle on the bench, though fitting it under the car is still a job best done on a lift.

Will the FD2 need a tune?

Spoon names no tune or required parts for the section. Because its benefit only shows at high rpm on track, owners building an FD2 to that level usually plan engine management changes anyway, but the part itself does not demand one and Spoon publishes no power figures for it.

Description

Spoon Sports 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for FD2 Honda Civic Type R

The Spoon Sports 2in1 Exhaust Manifold for FD2 Honda Civic Type R is a 2-into-1 section for the sedan Type R, and the most useful thing about it may be Spoon’s own guidance on when not to fit one. In everyday use the factory 2in1 works very well, with a carefully designed interior that spreads torque over a wide band, and Spoon says replacing it on a car driven mainly on the street makes no sense. The gain arrives only on a circuit car whose working rev range is high. Spoon also cautions that a loss of low-speed torque after a manifold change usually comes from pairing parts that behave differently from the factory combination, not from the parts on their own. The section weighs 4 kg and ships in a 60 x 22 x 26 cm box. For an FD2 built for sprint racing or long track sessions, it completes a Spoon manifold set; for an FD2 used on the road, the money is better spent elsewhere.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
