Which Porsche models does the SOUL Performance X-Pipe fit?

The SOUL Performance X-Pipe fits the 987.2 and 981 Porsche Boxster and Cayman from 2009 to 2016, including the base, S, and 981 GTS, on cars running the factory exhaust or Porsche Sport Exhaust. It bolts in where the factory center T-section comes out, so installation needs no cutting or welding.

How does the X-pipe change the exhaust sound?

It gives a deeper, sharper, and more refined note by letting the exhaust pulses cross cleanly instead of colliding at the factory merge. Many owners also report less drone at a cruise and smoother behavior near redline. The exact character depends on the rest of your exhaust, including whether the car has Porsche Sport Exhaust.

Is an ECU tune required?

No. The X-pipe is a bolt-on exhaust change and does not require an ECU tune to run. It works with the factory exhaust or Porsche Sport Exhaust as delivered, though some owners add tuning to chase other gains. A tune is optional, not a requirement for fitment or function.

What is the X-pipe made from?

The X-section is cast from T304L stainless steel rather than fabricated, which gives a smooth, weld-free interior that flows well and resists the cracking that can affect welded X-pipes. The slash-cut tips are single-wall 321 stainless in SOUL's Signature Satin finish.

Will the Signature Satin tips change color over time?

Yes. Satin and brushed single-wall stainless tips develop a golden tint from exhaust heat over time. This is normal for single-wall stainless and does not affect how the tips perform. Owners who prefer a finish that stays darker often choose the black or chrome tip options instead.

Is professional installation recommended, and is it warrantied?

Yes. Professional installation is recommended so the bolt-on connections seal correctly, though no cutting or welding is needed because the X-pipe replaces the factory center section directly. SOUL backs the X-pipe with a lifetime warranty covering materials and workmanship for both street and track use.

Description

SOUL Performance X-Pipe for 987.2 / 981 Porsche Boxster & Cayman / GT4

The SOUL Performance Bolt-On X-Pipe with Tips for the 987.2 / 981 Boxster and Cayman is a direct replacement for the factory “T” tip section, sharpening both sound and appearance without requiring a full rear exhaust swap. This assembly replaces the restrictive, crash-prone factory merge with a smooth cast T304L stainless X-pipe that allows exhaust pulses to cross over cleanly, reducing turbulence, improving flow, and yielding a crisper, more refined exhaust note with a sportier character in both normal driving and PSE sport modes, along with a subtle improvement in responsiveness and efficiency during spirited and highway driving. Paired here with your choice of SOUL’s Single or Double Wall Tips, it delivers a purposeful, motorsport-inspired rear aesthetic with OEM-plus quality. The cast X-section features a smooth interior free of weld intrusion for durability and reliability, leveraging the same X design proven on SOUL’s full Boxster / Cayman systems, including record-setting track cars. Each unit is fixture-checked for precise fitment, thoroughly inspected, foam packed for safe delivery, and backed by SOUL’s renowned lifetime warranty for both street and track use.

Development

In the factory “T” tip section of the Boxster / Cayman, exhaust gases collide with each other upon exiting the muffler, leading to turbulence and a negative impact on performance. This cost-cutting approach hampers efficiency. However, integrating a smooth, cast X-pipe into the rear section creates a more efficient flow path for the exhaust gases. As a result, a slight increase in gas mileage during cruising and improved power during aggressive acceleration can be expected.
The casting of the interior is meticulously designed to be smooth, without any protrusions from welds. In non-cast designs, stress and potential lack of proper welding techniques may cause failure at this juncture. SOUL Performance Products has chosen to offer the most durable X-pipe solution. These X-sections have been extensively utilized in their comprehensive range of Boxster / Cayman exhaust systems, demonstrating exceptional performance, including being used on the fastest Boxster ever recorded at Watkins Glen. Furthermore, these X-pipes are backed by a lifetime track-use warranty, underlining their reliability. Cast components, like the one in question, have a proven track record in OEM applications and are widely regarded in the aftermarket performance industry, particularly for intake plenums and throttle bodies, as exemplified by IPD Plenums.

Construction

SOUL Performance Products utilizes a cast T304L stainless steel X-pipe, which guarantees a smooth inner wall and a clean “X” section for maximum flow efficiency. Customers can personalize their exhaust system to match their preferences by choosing from a diverse range of options. These include single-wall 321 stainless tips, available in both slash-cut and straight-cut designs, as well as chrome double-wall tips with various finishes. Additionally, there are titanium single-wall tips offered that provide a significant weight reduction of nearly a pound compared to stainless steel tips. To ensure exceptional quality, each component undergoes meticulous quality checks and is thoroughly tested in a fixture to guarantee precise fitment. Before shipping, all items are thoughtfully foam packed, ensuring their safe and flawless arrival to customers.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
