The primary objective was to design a system that enables exhaust gases to flow in a straight path when the valves are open. This entailed employing a larger tubing diameter, incorporating smooth bends with gentle curves, and integrating an X-pipe crossover to optimize exhaust scavenging effects and enhance volumetric efficiency. Consequently, the exhaust system offered by Soul Performance significantly improves throttle response and overall performance compared to the restrictive factory sport exhaust.

Development & Testing

• Their objective was to enhance the comfort of everyday driving without compromising the race-inspired tone and straight-through exhaust design. They determined that opting for a larger resonator would not achieve the desired outcome while necessitating revisions to accommodate clearances. Such revisions could potentially jeopardize the exhaust system’s high-flow design principles. Additionally, they recognized that integrating higher flowing aftermarket headers, such as their Long Tube Street Headers, into an already aggressive rear system without appropriate sound attenuating features could lead to an excessively loud and potentially unpleasant driving experience.
• For customers who have combined their rear exhaust with upgraded headers, it becomes crucial to take this configuration into consideration and engineer the exhaust system accordingly. One effective method to mitigate unwanted frequencies, when implemented and engineered correctly, is the utilization of Helmholtz resonators, also known as anti-drone tubes. In the case of the 991.1 Carrera a specific RPM  exists range, typically between 3,000 and 3,500 RPM, where the drone can manifest itself when higher flowing exhaust components are introduced. The aim was to eliminate these undesirable frequencies within that range while also ensuring a smooth transition from closed to open valves for factory PSE-equipped cars.
