Which Porsche 718 models does the SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust fit?

It fits the 982 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder, 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, and 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 with the 4.0-liter flat-six, from 2020 onward. It does not fit the GT4 RS or Spyder RS, which use a different exhaust. Choose your transmission, Manual or PDK, when ordering.

How does it change the sound?

With the valves open, the exhaust sharpens the factory tone into a higher-pitched, more vocal note that many owners compare to a GT3. With the valves closed, it runs through a bespoke X-pipe muffler for a quieter, low-drone setting. The system is tuned for character and refinement, and it pairs well with headers and over-axle pipes.

Does it require an ECU tune?

No. The SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust is a direct bolt-on and does not require a tune. It works with the car's factory valve control. Owners who add headers or over-axle pipes may tune for those parts, but the exhaust itself needs none.

Can I keep my factory tips?

Yes. The Reuse OEM option retains your factory tips, or you can choose SOUL dual-wall straight-cut or slash-cut tips in brushed, polished, matte black, or Signature Satin. There is also an optional Valve Controller Kit that lets you command the valves manually, independent of the factory settings.

Will it work with my over-axle pipes?

Yes. The system is engineered to pair with aftermarket over-axle pipes and headers. One caution: the optional drone tubes are not compatible with the factory over-axle pipes, so note on your order whether you are running the factory over-axle pipes. European cars use a different mounting style and need the available conversion kit.

What is the SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust made from?

It is built from mandrel-bent .065-inch wall T304L stainless steel, with water-jet-cut flanges held to a ±0.003-inch tolerance and back-purged TIG welds in ARCAL Prime argon. SOUL fabricates every system in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and backs it with a lifetime warranty.

SOUL Performance Valved Exhaust for 982 Porsche 718 GT4, Spyder & GTS 4.0

SOUL’s Valved Exhaust delivers a notable enhancement in sound compared to the factory PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) system, thanks to its bespoke X-pipe muffler and anti-drone design elements. This exhaust system offers two distinct tones, each providing a significant improvement in audio experience. When the valves are open, it produces a sleek and sporty GT3-like tone, adding an invigorating touch to your driving adventures. On the other hand, in valves closed mode, the volume is calmed down, creating a refined cruising experience with just the right amount of presence to be enjoyed. Furthermore, this exhaust system has been carefully engineered to complement other aftermarket modifications, such as over axle pipes and headers, ensuring a harmonious and balanced overall setup. It seamlessly integrates with these modifications without becoming overpowering, allowing for a well-rounded and enjoyable driving experience.

Development Goals

Enhance the factory design and attain a more resonant, smoother, and higher-pitched tone.
Elevate the presence and character of the exhaust note within the cabin while effectively managing resonance and minimizing drone during both valves closed and open modes, utilizing their renowned drone fighting capabilities.
Enhance the aggressiveness when the valves are open while ensuring a suitable sound level potential and quality that remains street-friendly when combined with other compatible aftermarket exhaust components like competition over axle pipes and header replacements.
Provide the capability to significantly decrease the exterior sound level of the vehicle, allowing it to maintain a low profile and go unnoticed when required.
Accomplish a noticeable difference in sound between both modes, resulting in two meticulously crafted and practical experiences, a mild option and a wild one.

Research & Development

When the valves are open, their Valved Exhaust System shares a design resemblance with their Race Exhaust System, incorporating an X-Pipe that merges the exhaust flow, resulting in a refined and higher-pitched sound. Conversely, when the valves are closed, the exhaust is directed through smaller piping and a specially designed SOUL muffler, carefully crafted to fit within the limited space above the rear diffuser while achieving their desired sound objectives. This muffler upholds their exceptional standards for drone fighting mufflers, consistent with the reputation they have built through their existing Boxster / Cayman line of products.
The internal design of this muffler is exceptionally distinctive. It boasts a flow path with minimal restrictions, utilizing straight-through piping that features perforations allowing the exhaust gases to escape and be effectively muffled by the surrounding packing material within the muffler body. Additionally, a secondary internal X-pipe has been incorporated to facilitate a seamless merging of the exhaust flow. These carefully chosen characteristics play a pivotal role in reducing and refining the drone within the 1,800-3,000rpm range while enhancing the desired higher-pitched note in both the valves closed and open conditions.
By simply replacing the PSE (Porsche sport exhaust) muffler with the stock over axle pipes, an impressive transformation in tone is achieved. The new sound is smoother, higher pitched, and reminiscent of the cherished character found in previous generations of Boxster / Cayman with flat-six engines. In contrast, the PSE running with valves closed lacks a distinct tone and is often described as tinny, hollow, and unremarkable, with the intake noise overpowering the exhaust note.
With the introduction of their Valved Exhaust System, the exhaust now possesses genuine character, and its presence can be appreciated both with valves open and closed. The transition between valves closed and open modes is remarkably seamless. Although the overall sound level at wide-open throttle (WOT) with valves open may not exhibit a dramatic increase when compared to the stock system, the larger tubing diameter, extended travel path, and blending of the X-pipe result in a more profound and melodious sound. This remarkable soundscape is particularly captivating when heard from the outside, delivering a true sporty note that is expected from a high-end 4.0L engine.

Construction

Each system is assembled in house in the USA out of mandrel bent, thick wall.065″” T304L stainless steel. Back purged TIG welding (with ARCAL™ Prime argon gas) ensures proper weld penetration and longevity. Water jet cut flanges are made to ISO 9001:2015 standards with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches for extreme precision. They fabricate each exhaust using thick gauge aluminum fixtures which act as a great heat sink during the welding process and prevent warping not only of our products, but the fixtures themselves to ensure perfect fitment.

Bolt On & Go

Each individual component undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure its impeccable quality. To guarantee proper fitment, they are meticulously tested in a fixture, ensuring a seamless integration. Additionally, to safeguard against any potential damage during transit, they are carefully foam packed, ensuring that they arrive in perfect condition.
Furthermore, new high-grade hardware is included to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free installation process. With their commitment to providing a comprehensive package, you can be confident that all the necessary hardware is included, allowing for a straightforward installation experience.

Every system is meticulously assembled in-house in the USA, using mandrel bent T304L stainless steel with a robust.065″ wall thickness. The welding process involves back purged TIG welding, employing ARCAL™ Prime argon gas to ensure impeccable weld penetration and long-lasting durability. To achieve utmost precision, water jet cut flanges are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 standards, maintaining tolerances as fine as +/- 0.003 inches.
To guarantee perfect fitment, each exhaust is fabricated utilizing sturdy aluminum fixtures with thick gauge construction. These fixtures not only serve as excellent heat sinks during the welding process but also safeguard against warping, ensuring precise fitment not only for the products themselves but also for the fixtures.
They found that the particulate filters in the over axle pipes put a big damper on the overall sound level and how it carries into the cabin. Think of it like a cork in the middle of the exhaust, letting a PSE muffler replacement tease you but not giving you the full experience. Combining their Valved Exhaust System with their Competition Over Axle Pipes is when the skies open up, the sun shines down and the Porsche Gods have blessed us all with the sound we’ve all been waiting for. Inside and outside the car, windows up and down, the experience is nothing short of transformational. At wide open throttle it sounds like a weapons grade symphony. Very reminiscent of a GT3 at 9k, and arguably better than any stock GT3 you’ll ever hear on the street. Ditching the factory over axle pipes finally allows the car to have some burble on deceleration but nothing too over the top, just enough and just right. When you do a hard shift, a visceral crack erupts to really put a smile on your face. Not like a shotgun blast going off, more like a reward for actually driving the car how it’s meant to be driven. The sound is aggressive, but not overly so like you just took an RSR off the track for street shenanigans. When you’re off throttle cruising around, it’s relatively docile and comfortable (that secondary flow path at work). If you want to fly under the radar and significantly cut down on sound level outside the car, you simply close the valves and away you go in stealth mode. However, even with valves closed the tone and character of the exhaust is still there, not dead muted like the PSE muffler. It has cabin presence, some ever so mild drone/resonance in low rpms that they consider quite reasonable compared to the other configurations they’ve tested, even with valves open it’s quite reasonable. They’d almost say it’s more a character of the system and it’d be a shame if there wasn’t any to tease you into squeezing on the gas to hear more of it. Installing a SOUL Valve Controller Kit to override the PSE programming at your convenience, and hear what it has to offer under 4-5krpm in the first few gears is highly recommended.

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. Please review the full Terms & Conditions here.

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
