Which 986 Boxster does the Street Exhaust Package fit?

The Street Exhaust Package fits the 986 Porsche Boxster with the 2.7-liter flat-six, model years 2000 to 2004. It is not built for the 3.2-liter Boxster S, which uses different headers. SOUL can also supply fitment for the 1997 to 1999 2.5-liter cars as a special order, so contact us if you have an earlier Boxster.

Does it include catalytic converters, or will it throw a check engine light?

The headers have high-flow Sport Cats built in, so the car keeps its emissions equipment and runs without the check-engine-light trouble a race system can cause. That is the point of the street package: strong flow and a bigger sound while staying clean and civil enough to drive every day.

Is it loud, and does it drone on the highway?

It is louder and more aggressive than stock, but SOUL tuned the mufflers to practically eliminate the partial-throttle drone that makes many loud exhausts tiring on the highway. Because the drone is handled by the muffler design, the system needs no valves, so the note stays refined when you cruise and opens up when you push.

What is the SOUL Street Exhaust Package made from?

It is built in-house from T304L stainless steel, with port-matched header flanges, smooth-radius primaries, merge-spike collectors and mandrel-bent catback tubing. The tips are 321 stainless for heat resistance and a lasting finish, and the mufflers use fortified casings heavier than the factory parts for street and track durability.

Do I need a tune, and is installation a bolt-on job?

No tune is required, though some owners add one to make the most of the headers. Installation is involved rather than a simple bolt-on: it calls for trimming the inner fender liner and heat shield, and sometimes disabling the headlight auto-leveling sensor or rerouting a brake line, so SOUL strongly recommends professional installation.

Is it legal for the street?

It is not CARB certified, so it is not legal for sale or use in California or other states that follow CARB emissions rules, and the buyer is responsible for confirming the law where the car is registered. The Street Exhaust Package is designed and named for street driving and keeps high-flow Sport Cats, but its legal status depends on where you live.

Description

SOUL Performance Street Exhaust Package for 986 Porsche Boxster (with 2.7L engine)

SOUL Performance’s Street Exhaust Package for the 986 Porsche Boxster is the complete header-back answer for an owner who wants the flat-six to sound and pull the way it always should have, without turning the car into a race-only machine. Built in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, the package pairs SOUL’s own T304L stainless headers, with port-matched flanges, smooth-radius primaries, optimized collectors and merge spikes, to a mandrel-bent catback and drone-minimizing mufflers, so the system frees the engine while staying civil on a long drive. High-flow Sport Cats are built into the headers to keep the car clean and clear of check-engine-light trouble, and the mufflers are tuned so well that no valves are needed to hold partial-throttle drone in check. Finished with 321 stainless tips in the style and finish you choose, it is the rare street exhaust an owner can run every day and still feel every time the throttle opens.

Development

SOUL developed the package around how a 986 is actually driven on the street, not just how it performs on a dyno pull. The headers use port-matched flanges, smooth-radius primary tubing and merge-spike collectors to improve flow and build power through the range, while the mufflers are engineered to practically eliminate the partial-throttle drone that makes a loud exhaust tiring to live with. That drone control is what lets the system run without valves: there is no flap to open or close, just a note that stays refined when you cruise and turns aggressive when you ask for it.

Construction

Every part is fabricated in-house from T304L stainless steel, with mandrel-bent tubing to keep the bends smooth and the flow clean, and muffler casings built heavier than stock to survive street and track use. High-flow Sport Cats are integrated into the headers so the car keeps its emissions equipment and its clean running manners. The tips are 321 stainless, chosen for heat resistance and a lasting finish, and are offered in a range of styles and finishes so the exhaust can be matched to the car. Each system is fixture-tested for fitment, quality-checked and foam packed, and ships with new flange hardware and SOUL’s install guide.

Bolt On and Go

Each exhaust component is rigorously quality-checked and fixture-tested by SOUL Performance to ensure precise fitment, then foam packed to help it arrive in perfect condition. New high-grade hardware is included for the header-to-exhaust flange connections, and thorough installation instructions are provided in the box.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
