Development Goals

Research & Development

• The primary focus was to enhance exhaust flow by replacing the factory exhaust setup, which has limited tubing diameter of 2.75″. To achieve this, SOUL Performance Products developed custom catalytic converter sections that allow for a full 3″ diameter in both catted and catless configurations. These cat pipes lead into a unique 3″ X-Pipe assembly. Unlike other designs that involve cutting and welding 3″ bends together, or even using cast X-Pipes that reduce the pipe diameter, Soul’s X-Pipe is cast to maintain strength and minimize the number of welds in the system. This casting allows for an elongated X shape that preserves the tubing diameter and maximizes flow characteristics. The exhaust flow then continues through 3″ diameter piping all the way to the tip exits.
• By lengthening the flow path and merging the exhaust flow in the X-Pipe, SOUL Performance Products has created a smoother and higher-pitched exhaust note compared to shorter and separated bank designs. To further enhance the tone of the exhaust, they initially incorporated four resonators, similar to their systems for the 996 / 997 / 991 Turbo models. However, they found that the 992 platform had less cabin intrusion and required a more aggressive experience. As a result, they reduced the resonators to two, which refined the exhaust note while allowing for a higher overall sound volume that drivers could enjoy. The 992 platform does have a drone range typically between 2000-2400rpm, and the less restriction there is in the exhaust system, the more noticeable this drone becomes. SOUL Performance Products conducted experiments with different lengths and placements of Helmholtz anti-drone tubes to minimize drone. While it may not be completely eliminated, they have significantly reduced it to a level that they consider reasonable for most drivers seeking an aggressive exhaust system for the 992 platform. Once they determined the optimal length of the drone tubes individually, they ingeniously looped them together into a more symmetrical and visually appealing design. They also internally capped the tubes to maintain their functionality. Furthermore, the non-valved design of their system provided additional space, allowing them to precisely position the tip outlet pipes. These pipes feature a Jet-Hot ceramic coated backing plate, effectively filling the bumper outlet holes and concealing the open area behind it.
• Removing the valves posed a distinctive challenge as the electronically actuated valves cannot be disconnected without triggering limp mode.
• Removing the electronic valve actuators from the mechanical valve bodies and leaving them plugged in will result in limp mode.
• Currently, it is necessary to mount the factory valves onto a custom bracket that establishes a start/stop position for the electronic valve actuators, mimicking the functionality of the factory valves. SOUL’s system includes these specialized brackets to guarantee the absence of a check engine light (CEL) or limp mode.

Construction

• Every system is meticulously crafted in-house at SOUL’s USA facility using mandrel-bent, thick-walled T304L stainless steel. The back purged TIG welding method, employing ARCAL Prime argon gas, guarantees impeccable weld penetration and exceptional longevity. The water jet cut flanges are precision-made to meet the rigorous ISO 9001:2015 standards, ensuring extraordinary accuracy with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches. To ensure a flawless fit, Soul fabricates these components utilizing robust aluminum fixtures that act as excellent heat sinks during the welding process, preventing any warping in both the products and fixtures themselves.

• These catalytic converters represent the pinnacle of quality, renowned for their exceptional flow and durability within the industry. They not only meet the stringent EURO 4 emission standards with remarkable efficiency, but also enable an enhanced flow rate. The high-definition design incorporates premium triple foil winding, ensuring outstanding strength and resilience. Driving Impressions

• Currently, it is necessary to mount the factory valves onto a custom bracket that establishes a start / stop position for the electronic valve actuators, mimicking the functionality of the factory valves. SOUL’s system includes these specialized brackets to guarantee the absence of a CEL or limp mode.
