What's included in the Competition Exhaust Package?

The Competition Exhaust Package pairs the SOUL Competition Headers with the SOUL Valved Exhaust System for the 987.2 Porsche Boxster and Cayman, plus the valve controller kit, tips in your chosen style and finish, and installation hardware. It is the complete SOUL exhaust for the car, bought in one step rather than as separate parts.

Which 987.2 models does it fit?

The package fits the 987.2 Porsche Boxster, Boxster S, Cayman and Cayman S from 2009 to 2012, with the 2.9 and 3.4 liter flat-six engines. It is built for the 987.2 generation and does not fit the earlier 987.1 cars, which use different headers and exhaust.

How much power does it add?

On SOUL's project Cayman S, the complete package recorded peak gains of up to 9 wheel horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm on the dyno. The headers were sized primarily for the 3.4-liter S, with gains on the 2.9-liter cars as well, and the result on your car depends on its tune and setup.

Is it street legal, and will it throw a check engine light?

Because the package includes the Competition Headers, it is intended for off-road and competition use and is not CARB certified, so it is not legal for street use in California or other CARB states. A check engine light should be expected on a street-registered car, and a track-use ECU tune can address it.

Can I still daily drive it?

The valved system lets you keep the car quiet and low-drone with the valves closed and loud with them open, so it is comfortable to drive day to day. Note that the package is a competition and off-road system because of the headers, so its legal status for the street depends on where the car is registered.

Should I buy the package or the parts separately?

The package is the headers and the valved system together, tuned as a pair and usually the simplest way to buy both. If you want only one piece, or a street-legal setup, the Valved Exhaust System is sold on its own, and the Competition Headers are too, so you can build up in stages.

Description

SOUL Performance Competition Exhaust Package for 987.2 Porsche Boxster / Cayman

SOUL Performance’s Competition Exhaust Package for the 987.2 Porsche Boxster and Cayman is the complete exhaust upgrade, pairing SOUL’s Competition Headers with the Valved Exhaust System so the two work as one. The headers, with 2 inch runners sized for the direct-injection 3.4-liter S and the 2.9-liter cars, free the engine and feed a valved system that gives the flat-six two personalities on one car: quiet and low-drone with the valves closed, loud and full with them open at the press of a button. Developed and fabricated in-house in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania from mandrel-bent T304L stainless, the package put up gains of up to 9 wheel horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm on SOUL’s own project Cayman S. Because it includes the Competition Headers, it is a competition and off-road system rather than a street-legal one, and it is the way to buy the full SOUL exhaust for the 987.2 in a single step.

Headers and Valved Exhaust, Working Together

The package is built around two SOUL systems designed to complement each other. The Competition Headers use port-matched flanges, smooth-radius 2 inch primaries and flow-optimized collectors to free the 987.2’s flat-six and sharpen throttle response. Behind them, the Valved Exhaust System routes the gas through its mufflers for a quiet, low-drone cruise with the valves closed, then opens to the full 2.5 inch path for a louder, fuller tone, switched from a controller at the press of a button. Bought together, they are the complete SOUL exhaust for the car, tuned as a pair rather than assembled from separate parts.

Development and Testing

SOUL sized the header runners and collectors around the direct-injection 3.4-liter S while making sure the 2.9-liter cars gained as well, and tested the full package on its own project Cayman S with PDK. On a Dynojet it recorded peak gains of up to 9 wheel horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque at 4,100 rpm, measured with the complete package in place. The car was daily-driven on the street and track-tested on a dedicated Project Cayman R, which is where the system’s durability and the valved system’s drivability were proven together.

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, unfortunately our website is unable to compensate dynamically for what can at times be volatile changes in the cost of items due to currency values fluctuating, changes in prices from suppliers, changes in shipping and import duties, and other factors. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. In short, prices may change without notice. It is always advised to give us a call prior to placing your order online to confirm availability and to confirm current pricing.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
