The SOUL Performance 996 sport cat for the Porsche 996 Carrera replaces the restrictive factory cats with high-flow HJS 200-cell units and a split-bank design that frees up power while giving the 3.4L flat-six a deeper, more aggressive voice. Instead of an X-pipe that can hollow out the tone, SOUL keeps the banks separated to add volume and character, delivering a fuller, almost air-cooled-inspired note with a hint of rasp, all while greatly reducing the chance of a check engine light when used as intended. Built in-house at SOUL’s Willow Grove, PA facility from thick-wall 0.065-inch T304L stainless with smooth mandrel bends and heavy-duty flanges, each SOUL Performance 996 sport cat is fixture-checked for precise fitment, supplied with new hardware, and comes in about 2 lbs lighter than the factory components (13 lbs vs 15 lbs). Designed as a direct bolt-on for all 1999-2004 996 Carreras, the SOUL Performance 996 sport cat strikes a sweet spot between flow, sound, and reliability, backed by SOUL’s renowned Lifetime Warranty.

Development

The factory 996 Carrera cats are quite restrictive, and upgrading them is a common modification. SOUL took a fresh look at the exhaust design to create the best possible solution. Side-by-side sound comparisons between the split-bank design and an X-pipe design revealed that the X-pipe yields a hollower exhaust tone and cuts out desirable deeper frequencies on the 996; the difference is very noticeable. Separating the banks adds more volume and character, delivering a more profound, fuller flat-six sound with a hint of rasp, almost air-cooled-inspired in character.

Construction

Each set is assembled from thick-wall 0.065-inch T304L stainless steel and rigorously quality-checked in-house. Smooth mandrel bends and thick flanges ensure product longevity. Each set is tested in a fixture to ensure perfect fitment and then foam-packed to arrive in perfect condition. New hardware is included for the cats-to-header flanges. Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule.
