Development Goals

X-Pipe Design

The primary focus was enhancing exhaust flow by replacing the factory exhaust setup, which is limited to a 2.75-inch tubing diameter. SOUL Performance developed custom catalyst sections that allow for a full 3-inch diameter, leading into a unique 3-inch X-pipe assembly. Unlike designs that cut and weld 3-inch bends together or use cast X-pipes that reduce pipe diameter, SOUL’s X-pipe is cast to maintain strength and minimize welds, with an elongated X shape that preserves tubing diameter and maximizes flow.

Sound Tuning

Lengthening the flow path and merging exhaust flow in the X-pipe creates a smoother, higher-pitched exhaust note than shorter, separated bank designs. SOUL initially implemented four resonators similar to their 996/997/991 Turbo X-pipe systems, but found the 992 platform has notably less cabin intrusion, so they reduced the resonators to two, refining the note while allowing more overall volume. The 992 platform has a drone range of approximately 2,000-2,400 RPM, and Helmholtz anti-drone tubes were tuned in length and placement to reduce it to a reasonable level. The tubes are looped together into a symmetrical, aesthetically appealing design and capped internally to remain functional. The non-valved design also allowed precise positioning of Jet-Hot ceramic coated tip outlet backing plates to fill the bumper outlet holes and conceal the open area behind them.

Eliminating the Valves

Removing the valves posed a unique challenge, since the electronically actuated valves cannot simply be unplugged, and disconnecting the actuators from the mechanical valve bodies while leaving them plugged in causes limp mode. The factory valves are mounted to a bespoke bracket that creates a start/stop point for the electronic actuators, mimicking factory valve functionality. SOUL’s system includes these specialized brackets to guarantee no check engine light or limp mode.

Construction

Every system is crafted in-house at SOUL’s USA facility from mandrel-bent, thick-wall T304L stainless steel. Back-purged TIG welding with ARCAL Prime argon gas ensures proper weld penetration and long-term durability. Water-jet-cut flanges are manufactured to ISO 9001:2015 standards with tolerances of +/- 0.003 inches. Thick-gauge aluminum fixtures act as heat sinks during welding to prevent warping of both the components and the fixtures.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule.
