Öhlins DFV Road & Track Coilovers for Ford Focus RS

The Ford Focus RS was built from the factory with performance as its primary purpose, but the OEM suspension still leaves room on the table. The Öhlins Road & Track coilover kit for the Ford Focus RS closes that gap with patented DFV technology, an inverted monotube front strut, and individually adjustable damping at all four corners. One turn of the gold knob transitions the entire damping system between a relaxed road setting and a firm track setup; no tools, no per-corner adjustments. For Focus RS models equipped with optional factory electronic dampers, an Öhlins EDC cancellation kit is available separately to prevent error codes after installation.

DFV Technology; Race Mode in One Turn

Öhlins’ dual flow valve (DFV) is the core technology behind the Road & Track series. It allows damper fluid to flow consistently in both compression and rebound, enabling the tire to return to the road surface quickly after an impact. On track, this keeps the front end loaded through corners and stable under hard braking. An internal needle bleed valve also compensates for fluid viscosity changes as the damper heats up, so performance remains consistent across an entire track session without any adjustment needed.

Construction and Adjustment

The front uses McPherson strut monotube upside-down technology with a spring preload adjuster and approximately 10-30 mm of lowering range at an 80 N/mm spring rate, using the original top mounts. The rear uses an aluminum monotube shock absorber with a spring preload adjuster and a separate damper length adjuster, offering the same 10-30 mm lowering range at a 70 N/mm spring rate, also retaining the original top mounts. The stiffer front spring rate accounts for the Focus RS’s front-heavy weight distribution and AWD drivetrain loads, keeping the front end composed under the lateral forces a hard corner generates.

Does this Öhlins Road & Track kit fit all Ford Focus RS variants from 2016 to 2018? Yes. The kit fits the Ford Focus RS for the 2016-2018 model years. Both the front and rear use the original OE top mounts, so no additional hardware is needed for fitment.

Do I need an EDC cancellation kit with this coilover system? Only if your Focus RS is equipped with optional factory electronic dampers. When the OEM electronic suspension is replaced, the car will generate error codes and dashboard warning lights. The Öhlins EDC cancellation kit (part no. 35020-18) is required to prevent this and is sold separately.

Why is the front spring rate stiffer than the rear on this kit? The Focus RS has a front-heavy weight distribution and an AWD drivetrain that places significant lateral and longitudinal loads on the front axle. The 80 N/mm front spring rate is intentionally stiffer than the 70 N/mm rear to account for those loads, keeping the front end composed under hard braking and through fast corners.

How does the DFV adjuster work on this kit? Turning the gold knob clockwise engages race mode across all four damping zones at once; low-speed compression, high-speed compression, low-speed rebound, and high-speed rebound. Reversing it returns the damper to a comfortable road setting. No tools are needed and no separate per-corner adjustments are required.

Are the dampers rebuildable, and what warranty does Öhlins include? Yes. All Öhlins Road & Track dampers are fully rebuildable and can be revalved or serviced over time. The kit is TÜV approved and backed by a two-year limited warranty worldwide. All shocks are corrosion salt spray tested to ISO 9227 standards prior to leaving the factory.

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
