Kline Innovation Valvetronic Exhaust System for Type F131 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale & Modena / Spider

As the successor to the Ferrari 355, the Ferrari 360 embodies the essence of a true driver’s machine. With its flat plane crank V8 engine generating 395 horsepower and an impressive 8500 RPM redline, it delivers exhilarating performance. While the factory exhaust note is satisfactory, there is substantial potential for enhancement, along with the opportunity for compelling weight reduction.

The Sound

Through the removal of the heavily chambered rear silencer and the substitution with their lightweight Inconel 625 rear section, the weight of the exhaust is significantly reduced to only one-third of the stock system. Incorporating their signature 1D CLR X pipe design raises the pitch of the exhaust, resulting in the iconic high-pitched F1 scream that enthusiasts crave. When the valve is closed, the exhaust gases are intelligently channeled through their harmonically tuned silencer, delivering a smooth driving experience that closely mirrors the stock setup without any drone on the highway. However, upon opening the valve, the silencer is completely bypassed, allowing the raw power of the X pipe to unleash that exhilarating, high-pitched F1 scream.
In addition, replacing the stock 600cpsi catalysts with their HJS race catalysts or racing pipes further enhances the exhaust sound, producing an aggressive F1-like tone. The available tips come in a choice of double-skinned Inconel or stainless steel, as well as F1-grade pre-preg carbon fiber, providing both durability and style options. Moreover, they offer equal length headers crafted from either Inconel alloy or stainless steel, which not only enhance the overall sound by adding an extra dimension but also deliver moderate performance gains.

Performance

To achieve optimal performance gains, the recommended additions include a rear valvetronic exhaust, racing pipes, and equal length headers. This combination is expected to yield a power increase of approximately 21 horsepower across the entire rev range.

Stainless Steel

When it comes to exhaust manufacturing, the prevailing industry standard revolves around the use of 304-grade stainless steel. This particular grade offers a well-rounded combination of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It enables the construction of exhaust systems that strike a sensible balance between affordability and functionality, ensuring durability over the long term. However, it is worth noting that stainless steel is relatively heavier compared to alternative materials. Although it shares a similar density with regular steel, it has slightly lower tensile strength. This limitation restricts the potential for creating high-performance exhaust components using stainless steel. Moreover, in terms of sound characteristics, the thicker sidewalls required by stainless steel may result in a somewhat subdued and less vibrant exhaust note compared to other materials mentioned.

Inconel

When it comes to ensuring durability and heat resistance in the aerospace industry, the utilization of Inconel 625 stands as a paramount choice. This extraordinary material finds extensive applications in the manufacturing of critical components, specifically exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Notably, Inconel is the preferred selection for Formula One exhaust systems and has been chosen by manufacturers involved in prestigious hypercar projects like the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. These applications benefit immensely from Inconel’s exceptional capacity to withstand extreme temperatures surpassing 1000°C while prioritizing a lightweight design.
Inconel exhibits extraordinary properties, including remarkably high tensile strength and exceptional thermochemical stability. Its tensile strength is comparable to that of titanium, resulting in an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. As a result, Inconel allows for the utilization of thin sidewall materials while maintaining structural integrity, facilitating the production of lightweight components that demonstrate remarkable resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel presents certain challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, necessitating specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Additionally, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

Heat Shield

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance.
