The Mercedes AMG GTS amplifies the already exceptional performance of the Mercedes AMG GT with a 4.0-L V8 biturbo engine. Its additional features, which enable vehicle system configuration, render it fit for the race track, encapsulating the true spirit of AMG. But how can it be elevated even further? By equipping it with a sound that parallels its performance and style.

The Sound

• High-flow catalysts or racing pipes installed by Kline significantly increase the volume, while their signature 1D CLR tight radius x pipe takes the pitch to a level worthy of a supercar. The exhaust system, crafted from top-grade F1 Inconel 625 superalloy, doesn’t just drastically reduce weight; it also lends the Mercedes a unique tonal quality that is characteristic of Kline’s Inconel range.

Performance

• Kline enhances both sound and performance significantly by replacing the restrictive stock cats with their 100 CPSI race cats or racing pipes. Their perfect x pipe geometry further enriches the sound, effectively broadening the soundscape to deliver more aggressive midrange and treble tones. The valvetronic rear section is seamlessly integrated into the car’s OEM functionality by Kline, allowing for near-silent operation with the valve closed and a rich baritone, aggressive output when the valve is open.

Stainless Steel

• Aligning with industry standards, Kline uses 304-grade stainless steel in their exhaust systems. This type of steel provides a balanced mix of reasonable strength, thermochemical durability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of manufacture, thereby aiding in the production of sturdy and functional exhaust systems. While the density of stainless steel is close to that of regular steel and is slightly heavier, it provides a tad less tensile strength. Nonetheless, it fulfills all the requirements for constructing high-performance exhaust parts while generating pleasing exhaust sounds.

Inconel

• When it comes to supreme durability and heat resistance, Kline selects Inconel 625, a material highly regarded in the aerospace industry. This material is widely used in the manufacture of critical parts such as exhaust turbine blades in high-performance jet engines. Enjoying high esteem in the world of Formula One exhaust systems, it’s the preferred material for prestigious hypercar projects like the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. Inconel’s strengths lie in its exceptional tensile strength and thermochemical stability, equivalent to titanium’s, which allows a significant strength-to-weight ratio. This allows the usage of thin sidewall materials without compromising structural integrity, resulting in lightweight components that resist long-term fatigue. However, Inconel’s complex machinability and specific welding requirements make it challenging to work with, necessitating specialized expertise and labor-intensive techniques. Furthermore, the unique characteristics and specialized manufacturing processes of Inconel result in a higher cost for the raw material.
