With its powerful 730 horsepower V12 engine and strikingly aggressive styling, the Aventador S was meticulously engineered to leave a lasting impression. Recognizing the opportunity to enhance this exceptional vehicle, Kline took on the challenge of designing and building the ultimate Aventador S exhaust system. Constructed from the ultra lightweight Inconel 625 material, Kline’s design brief was simple yet ambitious: deliver unparalleled sound performance and achieve remarkable lightness.

Sound Engineering

• Within the team at Kline, it was unanimously agreed that the factory-installed Aventador exhaust did not possess the special qualities necessary to fully capture the raw nature of this supercar. As a result, the primary sound requirement for Kline was to create an exhaust system that would truly scream at high revs while maintaining near-stock levels of quietness during cruising speeds.
• When the valves are closed, Kline’s exhaust system skillfully diverts the exhaust gases through a series of chambers and acoustic sections, effectively eliminating any unwanted drone. Upon valve open, the exhaust transitions to a completely free-flow configuration, optimizing both performance and sound quality. The gases now pass exclusively through Kline’s trademark tight-radius X-pipe, effectively raising the pitch of the exhaust note. The resulting sound on valve open is undeniably incendiary, as the X-pipe enhances the exhaust note into a raucously aggressive vocal that resembles a demon’s scream.

Performance Enhancement

• Introducing a fully unrestricted system during valve open, Kline has achieved optimal exhaust efficiency, resulting in moderate yet noticeable gains in power and torque. The Aventador S experiences an increase of 23 horsepower and 29 Newton-meters of torque, further enhancing its overall performance.

Stainless Steel

• Within the realm of exhaust manufacturing, the industry has long relied on the established standard of 304-grade stainless steel. This particular grade offers a well-balanced combination of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production. It enables the construction of exhaust systems that strike a practical balance between affordability and functionality, ensuring long-term durability. However, it is important to acknowledge that stainless steel is relatively heavier compared to alternative materials. While its density is similar to regular steel, it possesses slightly lower tensile strength. Consequently, stainless steel does have its limitations when it comes to creating high-performance exhaust components and may result in a somewhat subdued and less vibrant exhaust note compared to other materials.

Inconel

• When it comes to prioritizing durability and heat resistance, Inconel 625 emerges as the ultimate choice, widely employed in the aerospace industry. This exceptional material finds extensive application in the manufacturing of critical components, particularly exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is highly favored in Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers involved in prestigious hypercar projects such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. The advantages of Inconel lie in its high tensile strength and excellent thermochemical stability. With a tensile strength comparable to that of titanium, it achieves an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio. This allows for the utilization of thin sidewall materials while maintaining structural integrity, facilitating the production of lightweight components that demonstrate exceptional resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel presents challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, demanding specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Additionally, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.

Heat Shield

• For customers who prioritize effective heat management, Kline offers meticulously designed heat protection solutions crafted from embossed stainless steel sheets. Skilled artisans carefully create and weld each heat shield to ensure optimal performance. By integrating these heat shields onto the manifolds, Kline effectively mitigates heat soak, improves scavenging, and enhances overall performance, resulting in a cooler engine temperature.
