The McLaren MP124C, equipped with a powerful 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 592 horsepower, represents McLaren’s first production car in a decade and was designed to disrupt the established supercar industry. However, considering the prevailing trend for turbo induction supercars, the 12C is in need of a sonic makeover. The main design objective for Kline is to make the MP124C roar like a true supercar should!

The Sound

• To achieve this, high-flow catalysts or racing pipes are utilized to significantly increase the volume. The signature 1D CLR tight-radius X-pipe, expertly crafted from premium F1-grade Inconel 625 superalloy, raises the pitch to the level expected of a supercar. The incorporation of Inconel not only results in significant weight reduction but also adds a distinct tonal quality to the McLaren that can only be achieved with Kline’s Inconel range.
• Customers are given the option to choose a racing version for optimal sound and performance or select from 100 or 200 cell high-flow sports cats. The modular design of the cats section allows for quick interchangeability between cats and racing pipes, depending on the intended use.

Performance

• Replacing the factory catalysts with Kline’s 100 CPSI HJS race cats or racing pipes leads to a substantial improvement in performance.

Stainless Steel

• Kline adheres to the industry standard by utilizing 304-grade stainless steel for exhaust manufacturing. This grade offers a well-balanced combination of moderate strength, thermochemical stability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of production, ensuring the construction of practical and durable exhaust systems. It is important to note that while stainless steel has a density similar to regular steel, it is relatively heavier and possesses slightly lower tensile strength. However, it fulfills the requirements for creating high-performance exhaust components capable of producing captivating exhaust notes.

Inconel

• For exceptional durability and heat resistance, Kline turns to the ultimate choice: Inconel 625, widely employed in the aerospace industry. This exceptional material finds extensive application in the manufacturing of critical components, including exhaust turbine blades for high-performance jet engines. Inconel is highly favored in Formula One exhaust systems and has been selected by manufacturers involved in prestigious hypercar projects such as the McLaren P1 and Aston Martin 177. The advantages of Inconel lie in its exceptional tensile strength and thermochemical stability. Comparable to titanium in terms of tensile strength, Inconel achieves an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio, allowing for the utilization of thin sidewall materials while maintaining structural integrity. This facilitates the production of lightweight components that exhibit remarkable resistance to fatigue over extended periods. However, working with Inconel presents challenges due to its difficult machinability and specific welding requirements, demanding specialized skills and time-consuming techniques. Moreover, the unique properties and specialized manufacturing processes associated with Inconel contribute to its higher cost as a raw material.
