IPD 74mm Plenum for 991.2 Porsche 911 Carrera / Carrera GTS / Carrera S [91274-3.0]

The 991.2 Carrera marks the first Carrera to transition from natural aspiration to forced induction, using turbochargers. Despite reducing displacement to 3.0 liters (from 3.8L and 3.4L), Porsche achieved 414 HP and 368 TQ with twin turbos. While IPD Plenums offer significant performance improvements for naturally aspirated engines, their patented design delivers even more impressive horsepower and torque gains in turbocharged applications like the 991.2 Carrera. As with all IPD Plenums, the 991.2 Plenum optimizes airflow through its patented “Y” design, enhancing engine performance and improving boost response. Proven to provide substantial gains across the entire power band from launch to redline, the 991.2 Plenum guarantees an elevated driving experience for any Carrera.

Development

Development began with a 1D simulation to optimize the handling of pulse peaks in the intake tract using various pipe geometries and the known engine parameters of the 992. The process then advanced to optimizing 2D slices of the plenum in CFD, with a focus on areas where adverse pressure gradients might cause flow separation. This allowed adjustments to the plenum’s curvatures and provided deeper insight into the airflow dynamics at full throttle. Once satisfied with the 2D results, the team moved to 3D modeling, incorporating all geometry to create a plug-and-play bolt-on part with optimal performance characteristics. After hundreds of geometric and CFD iterations, the team achieved not only an increase in mass flow compared to the stock intake but also improved uniformity in charge pressure and velocity across both branches.

Testing

The Plenum’s efficiencies significantly reduce initial turbo lag at lower RPMs, allowing quicker access to power and torque. However, the majority of the power and torque gains begin at 4000rpm, where they are most needed and enjoyed. The horsepower and torque gains continue to increase, outperforming the factory air distributor as the engine revs higher, with peak gains of over 30 wheel horsepower and 32 wheel torque occurring in the 6000rpm range.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do.
