Will the Catch Can Kit for VA STI models fit a 2017 WRX STI?

No. The HPS application list for part number 860-008 runs from 2018 to 2021 only. HPS product text elsewhere mentions 2017, but the 2017 STI does not appear in the vehicle list, so owners of a 2017 car should confirm fitment with BA before ordering.

Does the kit fit the Type RA and S209?

Yes. HPS lists the 2018 Type RA and the 2019 S209 for this kit, along with the Base, Sport, Sport-tech and Limited trims across 2018-2021 and the 2020 Kanrai Edition. All of these run the 2.5L EJ257 turbo engine that the Catch Can Kit for VA STI models is designed around.

Will the catch can fit the 2.0L WRX?

No. The 2.0L WRX of the same years uses a different engine and a different HPS kit, part number 860-007. This kit, part number 860-008, is listed only for the WRX STI with the 2.5L EJ257, so the bracket and hose routing should not be assumed to suit the 2.0L car.

How does the can separate oil from the PCV gases?

HPS machines the can from billet aluminum with internal baffles and diverters built for contaminant separation. Oil and water vapor from the PCV system collect in the can instead of reaching the intake, which HPS says limits carbon buildup on the intake valves and avoids octane-lowering contamination.

How is the can maintained?

A screw-on anodized aluminum dipstick shows the level inside the can, which holds a maximum of 5 fluid ounces. Draining uses the 14mm hex base and a standard wrench or socket. How quickly the can fills depends on how the STI is driven, so a regular look at the dipstick is worthwhile.

Description

HPS Aluminum Oil Catch Can Kit for VA Subaru WRX STI 2.5L Turbo

HPS’s Aluminum Oil Catch Can Kit for VA Subaru WRX STI 2.5L Turbo covers the 2018-2021 EJ257 cars HPS lists, from the Base and Limited to the Type RA, S209 and Kanrai Edition. Inside its one-piece billet aluminum body, baffles and diverters pull oil and water vapor out of the PCV stream so less of it returns to the intake. A screw-on anodized aluminum dipstick and a 14mm hex base keep checking and draining simple, which matters to owners who drive their STI hard and intend to keep it.

Design and Performance

HPS pairs the billet can with a heavy-duty powder-coated steel bracket and -6 AN hoses and fittings, and calls the one-piece body leak-proof where lesser cans are not. The case for it on the EJ257 is preventive: less oil vapor in the intake, cleaner valves and steadier octane over time. It adds no power by itself, and how quickly it fills depends on how the STI is driven.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
