About HKS

In October 1973, two skilled and passionate engineers had a dream: to create high-performance engines and parts that major original equipment manufacturers were unable or unwilling to make.

Hiroyuki Hasegawa, an ex-engineer at Yamaha Motor Company, teamed up with Mr. Kitagawa. They obtained financial support from Sigma Automotive Co., Ltd., which inspired the name “HKS.” The duo began modifying gasoline engines in a barn near Mount Fuji in Japan.

A year later, Hasegawa designed and constructed the first aftermarket turbocharger for passenger vehicles, and they continued to break new ground.

HKS blazed a trail in the Japanese aftermarket performance sector, introducing a range of innovative products, such as the first widely available electronic turbo timer and boost controller. Their early offerings also featured piggy-back fuel computers and advanced fuel management devices. Undoubtedly, HKS was setting the pace for performance trends in Japanese cars.
