GrimmSpeed’s Front Mount Intercooler Kit for VA Subaru STI relocates intercooling on the 2.5L EJ257 to a 27 x 11 x 4 in cross flow bar-and-plate core ahead of the radiator, fed by 2.5 in inside diameter 6061 aluminum piping with a 0.090 in wall. Cast end tanks were designed alongside that core, and every unit is welded and inspected by hand in the USA. The kit is aimed at the STI owner who has lapped a track or run a hot mountain road and felt the top mount fade; for gentle street use at stock boost it is more cooling than the car strictly needs. GrimmSpeed lists no tune requirement and no change in boost or spool.

GrimmSpeed began in 2006 in a single-stall garage in Maplewood, Minnesota, porting and polishing Subaru manifolds.
