How much lighter are the GiroDisc Front Rotors for Mk3 than the stock discs?

GiroDisc measures the GiroDisc Front Rotors for Mk3 at about 18.0 lb each, against 23.1 lb for the factory Focus RS front disc. That is roughly 5 lb less rotating and unsprung mass at each front corner, which helps acceleration and suspension response.

Do I need to change calipers to fit these Focus RS rotors?

No. GiroDisc lists them as a direct replacement for the factory disc with no modifications needed. They bolt straight on and work with the original calipers, so the factory brake bias and ABS efficiency are kept exactly as Ford calibrated them for the RS.

How many cooling vanes does the Focus RS front ring have?

Forty-eight curved directional vanes. They act as a centrifugal pump, drawing air in at the hub and forcing it out through the disc, which helps the RS shed heat during repeated hard stops on track or on a fast mountain road.

Why does the Focus RS benefit from a floating rotor?

The floating mount lets the iron ring expand with heat independently of the aluminum hat, while anti-noise spring washers stop the cold rattle floating rotors can make. The hat also carries over when the ring wears, so later service costs less than new rotors.

Are the Focus RS front rotors handed?

Yes. The curved vanes run in one direction, so GiroDisc makes separate left and right rotors and labels each one for its position. Fitting them to the correct side keeps the vanes pumping air outward from the hub as designed.

Description

GiroDisc Front Rotors for Mk3 Ford Focus RS

GiroDisc’s Front Rotors for Mk3 Ford Focus RS models weigh about 18.0 lb each by GiroDisc’s figures, against 23.1 lb for the factory disc, so every front corner sheds roughly 5 lb of rotating and unsprung mass. The two-piece design floats a ring of GiroDisc’s own cast iron, with 48 curved directional vanes, on a strictly US-sourced 6061-T6 aluminum hat. It bolts on with no modifications and keeps the factory calipers. For an RS owner who drives hard on back roads and track days, it trims front-end mass without touching the brake balance.

Bolt-On and Go

Installation is a straight swap for the factory disc: no spacers, no machining, and the original calipers go back on. Because GiroDisc upgrades the disc and leaves the calipers in place, the RS keeps the brake bias and ABS efficiency Ford engineered. The drive pins are secured by grade 12 cap screws with hardened washers, which are never tightened beyond 60 in-lb, or 7 Nm.

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
