Is the 1.40 A/R GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit right for my engine?

It is if the engine is large or revs very high. The 1.40 A/R GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit flows the most of the two GXR55 sizes, which suits engines toward 12.0L that can spool it. Smaller engines in the 3.0L to 12.0L range usually respond better with the 1.24 A/R.

Does the map groove version of the core matter for this housing?

No. The 0.18 inch and 0.25 inch map grooves are compressor housing features. Garrett lists this turbine housing for both GXR55-88 super cores, 934174-5008S and 934174-5001S, because they share the same turbine wheel with a 103mm exducer. Choosing the map groove version is a separate decision from choosing the A/R.

What does the XBoost compressor add?

Garrett states that the GXR55-88 XBoost compressor flows 21 percent more than the G55-1950, with higher pressure ratio capability and better efficiency at high flow rates. A larger turbine housing such as this 1.40 A/R gives that extra airflow an exhaust side that can keep up.

Is this housing stainless steel?

Yes. Garrett describes the GXR55 turbine housings as stainless steel with V-band inlet flanges, offered in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. Garrett does not publish a temperature rating for them, so exhaust gas temperature should be monitored during tuning at these power levels.

Is the super core included?

No. This listing is the turbine housing kit only. The GXR55-88 super core, with its center section, rotating assembly and compressor housing, is sold separately in 0.18 inch or 0.25 inch map groove form, and Garrett publishes a maximum speed of 84,000 rpm for it.

Description

Garrett GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.40 A/R V-Band, 103mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit at 1.40 A/R is the larger, higher-flowing of the two housings for the GXR55-88, with V-band connections at both ends, stainless steel construction and a free-float layout around a 103mm exducer turbine wheel. Garrett rates the GXR55-88 at up to 2350 horsepower, and this is the housing that gives that compressor the most exhaust flow to work with. It suits engines toward the 12.0L end of the 3.0L to 12.0L range, or smaller engines that live at very high rpm. On an engine that needs boost early, the 1.24 A/R is the better choice.

Why a larger A/R here

A/R compares the area of the housing passage with its distance from the turbine center. Moving from 1.24 to 1.40 lowers exhaust velocity and backpressure, which helps the GXR55-88 turbine flow at the top of the rev range at the cost of a later boost threshold.

Features

Larger of two A/R sizes in the GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit range
V-band joints at the inlet and outlet
No internal wastegate; an external gate controls boost
Sized for the GXR55-88 turbine wheel with a 112mm inducer and 103mm exducer

Specifications

Garrett part number: 761208-0087
A/R: 1.40
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel
Matching turbine wheel: 112mm inducer and 103mm exducer

Applications

This GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit fits the following Garrett cores:

Garrett GXR55-88, 0.18 inch map groove: 934174-5008S super core
Garrett GXR55-88, 0.25 inch map groove: 934174-5001S super core

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The GXR55-88 super core is sold separately
Garrett sets the maximum turbocharger speed of the GXR55-88 at 84,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the owner’s risk
The smaller 1.24 A/R GXR55 housing suits engines that need earlier boost
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
