Which cores fit the GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit?

Garrett lists this 1.24 A/R GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit for two super cores: the GXR55-88 with a 0.18 inch map groove, part 934174-5008S, and the GXR55-88 with a 0.25 inch map groove, part 934174-5001S. The map groove changes the compressor side only, so both use this housing.

Should I choose 1.24 or 1.40 A/R?

Choose by displacement and rpm. The 1.24 A/R brings boost in sooner and suits engines in the lower part of the 3.0L to 12.0L range Garrett gives for the GXR55-88. The 1.40 flows more at high rpm and suits the largest engines chasing the top of the rating.

How much power can the GXR55-88 make?

Garrett rates the GXR55-88 at 1000 to 2350 horsepower. The figure comes from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the fuel system, boost level, intercooling and calibration decide where a particular engine ends up.

Do I need an external wastegate?

Yes. Garrett lists both GXR55 turbine kits as free float, so the housing has no internal wastegate port, flapper or actuator. Boost must be controlled by an external wastegate mounted on the exhaust manifold, sized for the very high exhaust flow of an engine in this power class.

What maximum turbocharger speed applies?

Garrett publishes 84,000 rpm as the maximum turbocharger speed for the GXR55-88 and warns that running above it can damage the turbocharger. A speed sensor fitted to the machined port in the compressor housing lets the tuner log shaft speed and stay under that limit.

Description

Garrett GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.24 A/R V-Band, 103mm Turbine

Garrett’s GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.24 A/R is the smaller of the two exhaust housings Garrett offers for its GXR55-88 super cores, a stainless steel casting with V-band joints at the inlet and outlet and no internal wastegate, machined around a turbine wheel with a 103mm exducer. Garrett rates the GXR55-88 at 1000 to 2350 horsepower on engines from 3.0L to 12.0L, so even the smaller housing is built for very large output. Between the two sizes, the 1.24 favors response and suits the lower half of that displacement range. A builder chasing the top of the rating on a big V8 should look at the 1.40 A/R.

About the GXR55 frame

The GXR55-88 pairs an 88.9mm compressor inducer and 133mm exducer with a turbine wheel measuring 112mm at the inducer and 103mm at the exducer. Garrett states that the XBoost compressor flows 21 percent more than the G55-1950, and both map groove versions of the core share these turbine housings.

Features

V-band inlet and outlet, clockable during mock-up
Free-float design with boost held by an external wastegate
Smaller of two A/R sizes in the GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit range
Machined for the 103mm exducer turbine wheel

Specifications

Garrett part number: 761208-0086
A/R: 1.24
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel

Applications

Garrett lists this GXR55 Turbine Housing Kit for these super cores:

Garrett GXR55-88, 0.18 inch map groove: 934174-5008S super core
Garrett GXR55-88, 0.25 inch map groove: 934174-5001S super core

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The GXR55-88 super core is sold separately
Garrett sets the maximum turbocharger speed of the GXR55-88 at 84,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the owner’s risk
Garrett also offers this housing in 1.40 A/R
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
