Which turbocharger is the GXR45-73 Compressor Housing made for?

Garrett lists it only for the G-XRace GXR45-73, super core 934173-5004S, whose compressor wheel has a 73.9mm inducer and 102mm exducer. It swaps the standard housing for one with a 0.25 inch map groove. Owners of the smaller GXR45-67 need part 934809-0009 instead.

Why would I choose a map groove compressor housing?

Because a class rule requires it. Garrett publishes this housing for classes with a 0.25 inch map groove rule and gives PanAm as an example, while listing the plain super core for classes without one. On a build with no such rule there is no published reason to change housings.

How much horsepower does the GXR45-73 support?

Garrett rates the GXR45-73 at 750 to 1550 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 8.0L. That rating is worked out from compressor choke flow and describes potential flywheel horsepower; the engine, fuel system, boost target and tune decide where a real build lands within it.

Does the GXR45-73 Compressor Housing change my turbine housing choice?

No. The GXR45-73 Compressor Housing sits on the intake side only. Garrett pairs the GXR45-73 with eight free-float turbine housings in 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 A/R, in V-band inlet or divided T4 inlet form, and the same G-Series housings already on a G45 build carry over.

What is the speed limit for the GXR45-73?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed at 109,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the risk of the owner. A speed sensor installed in the compressor housing lets the tuner watch shaft speed. Garrett sells sensors separately and does not state whether this housing includes a port.

Description

Garrett GXR45-73 Compressor Housing, 0.25 Inch Map Groove

Garrett’s GXR45-73 Compressor Housing turns the larger of the two GXR45 compressor options into a 0.25 inch map groove turbocharger, the configuration Garrett lists for classes with a 0.25 inch map groove rule such as PanAm. It is sized around the 73.9mm inducer wheel in super core 934173-5004S, a core Garrett otherwise lists for classes with no map groove rule. Buy it when a rule book requires the groove and the 73.9mm wheel is the one you run; for an unrestricted build the standard housing on the core is the better use of the money.

What the GXR45-73 Brings

With a 73.9mm inducer, 102mm exducer and 52 trim, the GXR45-73 is the high-flow member of the GXR45 pair. Garrett credits its XBoost compressor with 11 percent more flow than the G45-1350, a lighter aluminum backplate, and lower intake temperature from better efficiency at high flow. It keeps the G-Series twin-scroll T4 and V-band turbine housings, so the exhaust side of a G45 build carries over.

Features

Cut to a 0.25 inch map groove for classes whose rules specify that dimension
Sized for the 73.9mm inducer, 102mm exducer, 52 trim GXR45-73 compressor wheel
Replaces the standard compressor housing on GXR45-73 super core 934173-5004S

Specifications

Garrett part number: 934809-0010
Map groove: 0.25 in
Compressor wheel: GXR45-73, 73.9mm inducer and 102mm exducer
Matching super core: 934173-5004S
Maximum turbocharger speed: 109,000 rpm

Applications

The GXR45-73 Compressor Housing is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists it for this turbocharger:

Garrett G-XRace GXR45-73 super core: 934173-5004S
Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 750 to 1550 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Notes

Housing only; the GXR45-73 super core and a turbine housing are bought separately
Check your class rule book for the required map groove before ordering; this part is the 0.25 inch housing
Garrett states that operating the GXR45-73 above 109,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can lead to damage and premature failure
A Garrett speed sensor kit is available separately for shaft speed monitoring

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
