Who needs the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate?

Builds with large engines and big-frame turbochargers that make more exhaust flow than a 50mm valve can manage at the boost target. The GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate is the largest Garrett offers. On a small or mid-size build it is oversized, and the GVW-45 or GVW-50 is easier to package.

What base pressure range does the GVW-60 offer?

Garrett ships it at 1 bar, or 14.5 psi, and the springs can be arranged for 0.2 to 1.6 bar, which is 3 to 23 psi. That matches the GVW-45 and GVW-50, while the GVW-40 alone reaches 1.7 bar. A boost controller can add pressure above the spring setting.

Does the GVW-60 include flanges and clamps?

Garrett states the GVW range ships with springs, fittings, flanges and V-band clamps included. Garrett install guide details cover the 40mm to 50mm sizes, so confirm the GVW-60 contents with Bulletproof Automotive if a specific part is critical to the fabrication schedule.

Does colour matter on the GVW-60?

Only for looks. Garrett makes the GVW-60 in red, blue, black and silver, and the colour is the anodized finish on the actuator cover. The 60mm valve, stainless housing, springs and hardware are identical across the four, so the choice has no effect on flow or boost control.

What runner angle suits a 60mm gate?

Garrett recommends a 45 degree connection to the exhaust flow with a smooth transition. A 90 degree runner can cut flow capacity by up to half and cause over boosting, which would waste the advantage of the large valve, and the gate must never sit on the turbine housing.

Description

Garrett GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate Kit, Red

Garrett’s GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate in red is the largest valve in Garrett’s GVW range, a 60mm gate with a red anodized actuator cover for engines whose exhaust flow would overwhelm a smaller valve. It belongs on large-displacement, high-output builds running big-frame turbochargers on free-float housings, where holding a modest boost target means diverting a lot of exhaust around the turbine. Springs cover 0.2 to 1.6 bar of base pressure. On a small or mid-size engine it adds size and cost for flow capacity the build cannot use, and the GVW-45 or GVW-50 is the better fit.

Choosing the 60mm

Garrett makes the GVW in 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm valve diameters with the same materials, cooling ports and finishes, and the three larger sizes share one spring range. The only reason to choose the 60mm is flow: it is the gate for builds where the 50mm valve cannot hold the target boost.

Features

60mm valve, the largest in the GVW range
Spring base pressure from 0.2 to 1.6 bar
Liquid-cooled actuator ports and replaceable valve and bushing
Red anodized cover on the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate

Specifications

Valve diameter: 60mm
Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, red anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-60 wastegate, red
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-60 is also sold in blue, black and silver, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
