Where does the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate mount?

On the exhaust manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, never on the turbine housing, which Garrett prohibits. The GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate works with a free-float housing that has no internal gate, on a runner joining the exhaust flow at about 45 degrees.

How do I change springs safely?

Wear eye protection, because Garrett warns the springs are under pressure and can cause injury. Seat each spring in its diaphragm groove, align the longest spring with its matching groove in the cap, and torque the cap bolts to 2.5 Nm as the Garrett guide lists.

What peak exhaust temperature is it rated for?

The stainless valve housing carries a Garrett rating for exhaust peaks up to 1050C, or 1922F. The actuator runs much cooler than that, and Garrett offers liquid cooling for it, which cut actuator body temperature by up to 52 percent in testing.

Which hose sizes do the ports need?

The air ports use banjo fittings to a hose barb for 6mm, or 0.25 in, inside diameter hose, and the water ports take AN-3 lines through M8x1.0 fittings. Garrett supplies the fittings and plugs for the ports not in use.

Is the base pressure adjustable?

Yes. The GVW-60 arrives at 1 bar, or 14.5 psi, and the spring chart covers 0.2 to 1.6 bar, or 3 to 23 psi. Garrett bases those values on a 1:1 boost to backpressure ratio, so manifold boost on the engine can read differently.

Description

Garrett GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate Kit, Black

Garrett’s GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate in black is a 60mm external gate with a black anodized actuator cover, aimed at builds with very high exhaust flow on free-float turbine housings. Garrett specifies a high-temperature stainless valve housing, a Nomex reinforced elastomer diaphragm and 17-7 PH stainless springs, and states that the gate must never be bolted to the turbine housing. With springs from 0.2 to 1.6 bar, it holds low and moderate boost targets on engines whose flow would keep a smaller valve from controlling boost. A small engine has no use for a valve this size.

Materials

The valve housing is high-temperature stainless steel rated to 1050C (1922F), the diaphragm a high-temperature Nomex reinforced elastomer, and the springs 17-7 PH stainless steel. The actuator cover is fully machined from 6061 aluminum and anodized black on this version.

Features

60mm valve for the highest flow GVW applications
Stainless valve housing rated to 1050C (1922F)
Springs from 0.2 to 1.6 bar with 1 bar fitted
Black anodized cover on the GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate

Specifications

Valve diameter: 60mm
Base pressure as shipped: 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Spring base pressure range: 0.2 to 1.6 bar (3 to 23 psi)
Valve housing: High-temperature stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)
Actuator cover: Machined 6061 aluminum, black anodized
Air ports: M10x1.0 to hose barb for 6mm (0.25 in) ID hose
Water ports: M8x1.0 to AN-3

What’s Included

GVW-60 wastegate, black
Springs
Inlet and outlet weld flanges
Inlet and outlet V-band clamps with fasteners
Water fittings, banjo air fittings and port plugs

Applications

The GVW-60 60mm External Wastegate is not vehicle specific. It mounts to a wastegate runner on the exhaust manifold:

Turbine housing type: Free-float housings with no internal wastegate
Mounting position: Manifold or collector ahead of the turbine, ideally at 45 degrees
Boost control: Springs alone, or a solenoid on the air ports

Notes

Garrett states the wastegate must never be mounted to the turbine housing
Springs are under pressure; Garrett advises eye protection and installation by a qualified technician
The GVW-60 is also sold in red, blue and silver, and Garrett makes 40mm, 45mm, 50mm and 60mm GVW sizes

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
