Who is the 94mm GTX5533R Gen II Super Core for?

Builders targeting roughly 2000 to 2250 horsepower on a large engine, usually in drag racing. Garrett rates the 94mm GTX5533R Gen II Super Core at 1000 to 2250 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L, with flow up to 205 lbs/min. Smaller targets are better served by the 85mm to 91mm cores.

How is the horsepower rating calculated?

Garrett calculates it strictly from the choke flow of the compressor map, the total capability of the turbocharger, so it represents potential flywheel horsepower. Fuel delivery, boost pressure, intercooling, the turbine housing and the calibration all determine how much of the 2250 figure an engine reaches.

94mm or 98mm GTX5533R?

Both use the 0.96 A/R compressor housing and the same turbine. The 98mm, 54 trim, flows 223 lbs/min and is rated to 2500 horsepower; the 94mm flows 205 lbs/min and is rated to 2250. Choose the 94mm unless the engine genuinely needs the last 250 horsepower of compressor.

Which turbine A/R suits a 94mm build?

Garrett offers GTX55 housings from 1.12 to 1.40 A/R. A core this size is usually paired with a 1.24 or 1.40 A/R housing to keep exhaust back pressure down at high flow. V-band and T6 inlets are both available, so the manifold flange decides the inlet type.

What shaft speed should I stay under?

Garrett lists 84,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed for the GTX5533R Gen II and warns that running beyond it is at the risk of the owner and can cause premature failure. The machined port in the compressor housing accepts a Garrett speed sensor, sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX5533R Gen II Super Core, 94mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5533R Gen II Super Core in 94mm is the second-largest GTX5533R, a 50 trim wheel in the 0.96 A/R compressor housing that Garrett rates at 1000 to 2250 horsepower, flowing up to 205 lbs/min on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. It is a serious drag racing core for a big V8 or large six on high boost. On a street-driven car, even a powerful one, it will be slow to build boost compared with the 85mm or 88mm versions; the 94mm only pays off when the engine can use more than 2000 horsepower worth of air.

Garrett’s GTX5533R Gen II

Garrett developed the Gen II compressor wheel with computational fluid dynamics and credits the update with up to 20 percent more horsepower than the earlier version. The compressor inlet, outlet and ported shroud are fully machined, the backplate is lightweight billet, and the outlet is a V-band connection. Garrett also lists SFI supercore and turbine options for the GTX5533R family.

Features

94mm inducer, 50 trim, flowing up to 205 lbs/min
0.96 A/R Gen II compressor housing
Improved ported shroud for surge resistance, per Garrett

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 94mm and 133mm
Compressor trim: 50
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 102mm
Turbine trim: 84
Compressor flow: Up to 205 lbs/min
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5533R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists it for these engines:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2250 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX55 turbine kits: V-band inlet in 1.24 or 1.40 A/R, standard or long outlet with cross bolts; T6 inlet in 1.12, 1.24 or 1.40 A/R; all with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists seven GTX55 turbine housings for 5533 and 5544 cores
Every GTX55 housing Garrett lists is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
