What power can the 91mm GTX5533R Gen II Super Core reach?

Garrett rates the 91mm GTX5533R Gen II Super Core at 1000 to 2100 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines, with flow up to 191 lbs/min. The rating is calculated from compressor choke flow and stands for potential flywheel horsepower, so only a fully built engine approaches it.

Why does the 91mm core use a different compressor housing?

Garrett pairs the three larger GTX5533R inducers, 91mm, 94mm and 98mm, with a 0.96 A/R compressor housing, while the 85mm and 88mm use 0.88 A/R. The larger volute suits the higher mass flow of the bigger wheels. The outlet is still a V-band joint.

Is the 91mm a good middle ground?

For builds aimed at 1800 to 2100 horsepower, yes. It sits between the 88mm, rated to 1900, and the 94mm, rated to 2250. Choose it when the 88mm runs out of flow but the 94mm or 98mm would be slower to respond than the engine and class allow.

Which turbine housings are offered?

Garrett lists seven GTX55 kits for 5533 and 5544 cores: V-band inlet in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R, in standard and long-outlet versions with cross bolts, and T6 inlet in 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. All are free float with a V-band outlet and need an external wastegate.

Does the 91mm core have a speed sensor port?

Yes. The Gen II compressor housing has a fully machined speed sensor port that ships plugged and opens with a 5mm Allen key. Garrett sets the GTX5533R maximum at 84,000 rpm, and the Garrett sensor kit, sold separately, shows the tuner how close the turbocharger runs to it.

Description

Garrett GTX5533R Gen II Super Core, 91mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5533R Gen II Super Core with the 91mm inducer is where the GTX5533R moves to a larger 0.96 A/R compressor housing, and Garrett rates it at 1000 to 2100 horsepower with flow up to 191 lbs/min on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. The 47 trim wheel and bigger housing push the usable range above 2000 horsepower, which suits a large-displacement V8 on race fuel or methanol. It is the wrong core for a build that will stop around 1500 horsepower, where the 85mm or 88mm GTX5533R will spool sooner and drive better.

What Changes at 91mm

The 85mm and 88mm GTX5533R cores use a 0.88 A/R compressor housing; Garrett lists the 91mm, 94mm and 98mm cores with a 0.96 A/R housing. The turbine stays the same 112mm, 84 trim wheel. Garrett keeps the billet backplate, the improved ported shroud and the V-band compressor outlet across the range.

Features

91mm inducer, 47 trim, flowing up to 191 lbs/min
Larger 0.96 A/R compressor housing
Lightweight billet backplate with V-band compressor outlet

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 91mm and 133mm
Compressor trim: 47
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 102mm
Turbine trim: 84
Compressor flow: Up to 191 lbs/min
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5533R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes this inducer by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2100 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX55 turbine kits: V-band inlet in 1.24 or 1.40 A/R, standard or long outlet with cross bolts; T6 inlet in 1.12, 1.24 or 1.40 A/R; all with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists seven GTX55 turbine housings for 5533 and 5544 cores
Every GTX55 housing Garrett lists is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
Other GTX5533R Gen II inducer sizes are also listed

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
