Is the 1.24 A/R T6 GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit a good default?

For most large-engine GTX55 builds on a T6 manifold, yes. The 1.24 A/R GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit sits between the quick 1.12 and the free-flowing 1.40, so it balances boost onset with high-rpm flow across the GTX5533R and GTX5544R Gen II range.

What is the difference between this and part 761208-0064?

The inlet. This part bolts to a T6 manifold flange, while part 761208-0064 has a V-band inlet and a short outlet. Both are 1.24 A/R, free float and listed for the same GTX55 Gen II cores, so the manifold decides which to buy.

Will it fit a GT5533R from before Gen II?

Yes. Garrett lists the GTX55 turbine kits as interchangeable with GT and GTX 5533 and 5544 super cores, and states that all Gen II GTX turbochargers accept existing GT and GTX turbine housings. An older core can use this housing, and an upgrade can keep it.

Does this housing need an external wastegate?

Yes. It is a free-float housing with no internal wastegate port or flapper. The exhaust manifold must carry an external wastegate ahead of the turbine, sized to bleed enough exhaust flow to hold boost on an engine feeding a turbocharger of this size.

How much power can a GTX55 build make with this housing?

Garrett rates the GTX5533R Gen II cores from 1000 horsepower to 2500 on the 98mm version, and the GTX5544R Gen II up to 2850 on the 106mm version, figures based on compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. The housing shapes spool and breathing within that range.

Description

Garrett GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.24 A/R T6 Inlet, Free Float

Garrett’s GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.24 A/R with a T6 inlet is the middle T6 size for GTX5533R and GTX5544R Gen II cores, a free-float housing with a V-band outlet that suits most large-engine GTX55 builds on a T6 manifold. It gives up some of the 1.12 A/R housing’s early response for lower backpressure as rpm rises, which pays off on bigger engines and the larger compressor options. Builders on a V-band collector should look at the V-band inlet 1.24 A/R instead, and very small engines will spool better on the 1.12.

Choosing Between Inlets

Garrett makes the 1.24 A/R GTX55 housing with three inlet and outlet arrangements: this T6 inlet version, a V-band inlet short outlet version, and a V-band inlet long outlet version with cross bolts. The manifold flange and the space around the downpipe decide which one fits.

Features

1.24 A/R, the middle T6 size in the GTX55 range
T6 inlet flange with an undivided entry, V-band outlet
Free float, for boost control from an external wastegate
The GTX55 Turbine Housing Kit fits both GTX5533R and GTX5544R Gen II cores

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
