How much power is the 76mm GTX5020R Gen II Super Core rated for?

Garrett rates the 76mm GTX5020R Gen II Super Core at 1075 to 1950 horsepower on engines from 2.8L to 11.0L. That rating is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the fuel system, boost and calibration decide how close an engine gets.

What separates the GTX5020R from the GTX5009R?

The compressor. Both use the 99mm GTX50 turbine and the same turbine housings, but the GTX5020R has a 120mm exducer wheel against the 109mm wheel of the GTX5009R. That raises the ceiling to as much as 2050 horsepower depending on inducer, with a lower 93,000 rpm speed limit.

Which inducer size should I choose?

Garrett offers the GTX5020R with 76mm, 80mm and 88mm inducers, rated to 1950, 2000 and 2050 horsepower. The 76mm, 41 trim wheel gives the most response and suits builds that care about drivability. The 80mm and 88mm options trade some response for more peak airflow.

Is the Gen II GTX5020R a direct swap for Gen I?

Not for the cold side plumbing. Per Garrett, the Gen II compressor housing grows 6mm at the outlet and 10mm at the inlet, which means it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I. The outlet diameter stays at 107mm, and GTX50 turbine housings carry over.

What is the shaft speed limit?

Garrett publishes a maximum allowable speed of 93,000 rpm for the GTX5020R Gen II. Running above it is at the risk of the owner. The compressor housing takes only Garrett flange-style speed sensors, part 781328-0003 or 781328-0004, which are sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX5020R Gen II Super Core, 76mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX5020R Gen II Super Core with the 76mm inducer pairs the 120mm Gen II compressor wheel with Garrett’s 99mm GTX50 turbine, and Garrett rates it at 1075 to 1950 horsepower on engines from 2.8L to 11.0L. The 41 trim is the most responsive of the three GTX5020R wheels, so this version fits a large V8 that needs close to 2000 horsepower of compressor while keeping boost onset reasonable. On anything smaller than a 4.0L, or below 1100 horsepower, the GTX4720R or GTX5009R will feel quicker.

Gen II Compressor and Housing

Garrett lists 9 percent more compressor flow for the Gen II wheel and 30 percent lower inertia than the GTX5018R, with the exducer grown 2mm to 120mm. It runs in a larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing volute that Garrett describes as maximizing the wheel’s power capacity. That housing is longer at the inlet and outlet than Gen I, so intake and charge piping need checking on an upgrade.

Features

76mm inducer, 41 trim, on a 120mm Gen II compressor wheel
99mm, 84 trim turbine wheel in the GTX50 frame
Supercore accepts GT and GTX turbine housings of the GTX50 frame

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 76mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 41
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 99mm and 91mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 93,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX5020R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.8L to 11.0L
Power range: 1075 to 1950 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX50 turbine kits: 0.96, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT50 and GTX50 turbine housing kits for this core
All three GTX50 housings Garrett lists are free float and need an external wastegate
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 93,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The Gen II compressor housing is 6mm longer at the outlet and 10mm longer at the inlet than Gen I, so Garrett states it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
