How much power can the 88mm GTX4720R Gen II Super Core make?

Garrett rates the 88mm GTX4720R Gen II Super Core at 1025 to 1950 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 10.0L, the highest of the three GTX4720R options. The figure is derived from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower, so reaching it needs an engine and fuel system built for that output.

Is the 88mm inducer too big for my engine?

It can be. The 54 trim wheel is the highest-flowing GTX4720R and suits large engines or drag builds focused on peak power. A smaller engine, or one that sees street use, usually responds better with the 76mm or 80mm GTX4720R, which share the same turbine and housings.

Should I run the 1.08 or 1.23 A/R turbine housing?

Garrett lists both for the GTX47 frame, each with a T6 inlet and V-band outlet. The 1.08 A/R brings boost on sooner, which helps smaller engines and drivability. The 1.23 A/R relieves back pressure at high flow and generally suits larger engines making the most power.

Will this Gen II core fit my Gen I intake and charge pipes?

Not without changes. Garrett states the Gen II compressor housing is 6mm longer at the outlet and 10mm longer at the inlet, so it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I. The 107mm outlet diameter stays the same, which keeps couplers and clamps sized as before.

What speed sensor do I need?

A Garrett flange-style sensor. Garrett lists the port as compatible only with part 781328-0003 Street kit or 781328-0004 Pro. The sensor lets the tuner watch shaft speed against the 85,000 rpm maximum Garrett publishes for the GTX4720R Gen II. The kit is sold separately.

Description

Garrett GTX4720R Gen II Super Core, 88mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX4720R Gen II Super Core with the 88mm inducer is the largest GTX4720R, a 54 trim Gen II wheel that Garrett rates at 1025 to 1950 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 10.0L. It is built for maximum airflow from the GTX47 frame, so it belongs on a big-displacement drag or high-boost build where peak power matters more than how early boost arrives. On a smaller engine or a car that must drive on the street, the 76mm or 80mm GTX4720R will be easier to live with.

Garrett’s Gen II Numbers

Garrett lists 9 percent more compressor flow from the Gen II wheel and 30 percent lower inertia than the GTX4718R, with the exducer grown 2mm to 120mm. The compressor housing volute is a larger 0.88 A/R. On the exhaust side the GTX4720R uses Garrett’s 93mm, 82 trim turbine, which it shares with the GTX4709R.

Features

88mm inducer, 54 trim, the highest-flowing GTX4720R wheel
Gen II compressor housing with a 0.88 A/R volute
Speed sensor port for Garrett’s flange-style sensors

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 88mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 54
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 93mm and 84mm
Turbine trim: 82
Maximum turbocharger speed: 85,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX4720R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes this version by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 10.0L
Power range: 1025 to 1950 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX47 turbine kits: 1.08 and 1.23 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT47 turbine housing kits for this core
Both GTX47 housings Garrett lists are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 85,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The Gen II compressor housing is 6mm longer at the outlet and 10mm longer at the inlet than Gen I, so Garrett states it is not outline interchangeable with Gen I

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
