Why choose the 80mm GTX4720R Gen II Super Core?

It sits between the 76mm and 88mm versions. This GTX4720R Gen II Super Core uses a 45 trim wheel and Garrett rates it to 1900 horsepower, against 1850 for the 76mm and 1950 for the 88mm. It suits a build that wants more top end than the smallest inducer without moving to the largest.

What horsepower range does Garrett list?

Garrett lists 1025 to 1900 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 10.0L for the 80mm GTX4720R Gen II. Garrett calculates this rating from compressor choke flow, so it stands for potential flywheel horsepower, and fueling, boost and the calibration decide the outcome.

GTX4720R or GTX5020R: what is the difference?

They share the 120mm Gen II compressor wheels. The GTX4720R uses a 93mm GTX47 turbine and fits 2.5L to 10.0L engines; the GTX5020R uses a 99mm GTX50 turbine, fits 2.8L to 11.0L and is rated higher. A larger engine or a build chasing 2000 horsepower leans toward the GTX5020R.

Will my existing GT47 turbine housing fit?

Yes, if it is one of the GTX47 kits. Garrett states this core is compatible with GT and GTX turbine housings and lists the GTX47 kits as interchangeable with GT and GTX 4708, 4709, 4718 and 4720 supercores. Those kits come in 1.08 and 1.23 A/R with a T6 inlet.

How fast can the GTX4720R spin?

Garrett gives a maximum allowable speed of 85,000 rpm for the GTX4720R Gen II. Exceeding it is at the risk of the owner and can lead to damage and premature failure. A flange-style Garrett speed sensor, part 781328-0003 or 781328-0004, fits the port in the compressor housing.

Description

Garrett GTX4720R Gen II Super Core, 80mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX4720R Gen II Super Core in 80mm form is the middle of three GTX4720R options, a 45 trim inducer on a 120mm Gen II compressor wheel that Garrett rates at 1025 to 1900 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 10.0L. It is the balanced choice for a large V8 or a built six on high boost, giving up little response to the 76mm core while adding airflow near the top. For engines that will never pass 1000 horsepower it is too large, and the GTX4709R family is the better fit there.

Larger Compressor Housing

Garrett fits Gen II with a larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing volute, against 0.69 A/R on Gen I, to make full use of the new wheel. The housing adds 6mm at the outlet and 10mm at the inlet while keeping the 107mm outlet diameter, which is why Garrett states Gen II is not outline interchangeable with Gen I. The speed sensor port takes the newer flange-style sensors only.

Features

80mm inducer, 45 trim, on a 120mm Gen II compressor wheel with 9 percent more flow
30 percent lower inertia than the GTX4718R, per Garrett
Uses the same GTX47 turbine housings as the GTX4709R

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 120mm
Compressor trim: 45
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 93mm and 84mm
Turbine trim: 82
Maximum turbocharger speed: 85,000 rpm

Applications

The GTX4720R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett lists it for these engines:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 10.0L
Power range: 1025 to 1900 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX47 turbine kits: 1.08 and 1.23 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT47 turbine housing kits for this core
Both GTX47 housings Garrett lists are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 85,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The 76mm and 88mm GTX4720R Gen II are also listed

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
