Which turbine housing suits the 80mm GTX4709R Gen II Super Core?

Garrett lists two GTX47 kits, both T6 inlet with a V-band outlet and no internal wastegate: 1.08 and 1.23 A/R. The 1.08 A/R housing builds boost earlier on a smaller engine, while the 1.23 A/R suits larger displacement or a build chasing peak power. Both fit this GTX4709R Gen II Super Core.

What power does Garrett quote for this version?

Garrett quotes 825 to 1625 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 10.0L for the 80mm GTX4709R Gen II. That rating comes from the choke flow of the compressor map and describes potential flywheel horsepower, so a stock-internal engine will not get near the upper figure.

How does the GTX4709R compare with the GTX4720R?

Both share the GTX47 turbine and housings. The GTX4709R uses a 109mm compressor exducer and reaches 1625 horsepower, with a 102,500 rpm limit. The GTX4720R steps to a 120mm exducer and up to 1950 horsepower, with an 85,000 rpm limit, so it is the larger compressor of the two.

What did Gen II change on the GTX4709R?

Garrett lists a redesigned compressor wheel with 15 percent more flow and 39 percent lower inertia compared with the GTX4708R, a 1mm larger exducer, and a larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing volute. The new housing is longer, so Gen II does not drop into Gen I piping unchanged.

What is the maximum shaft speed?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed at 102,500 rpm and says running above it is at the risk of the owner. The port in the compressor housing takes Garrett flange-style sensors only, part 781328-0003 or 781328-0004, which let the tuner confirm the turbocharger stays inside its limit.

Description

Garrett GTX4709R Gen II Super Core, 80mm Compressor Inducer

Garrett’s GTX4709R Gen II Super Core in the 80mm compressor inducer size is the higher-flowing of the two GTX4709R options, rated by Garrett at 825 to 1625 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 10.0L. The 54 trim wheel trades a little response against the 76mm version for more airflow at the top, so it fits a V8 or a large six running high boost on race fuel or E85. If the engine needs well past 1600 horsepower, the GTX4720R uses the same turbine housings with a larger 120mm exducer wheel.

What Garrett Changed for Gen II

Garrett states the Gen II compressor wheel flows 15 percent more air and has 39 percent lower inertia than the GTX4708R, with the exducer grown 1mm to 109mm. The compressor housing volute grows from 0.69 to 0.88 A/R to match the wheel, which makes the cold side longer than Gen I. Supercore and turbine housing are sold separately.

Features

80mm compressor inducer, 54 trim, on a 109mm Gen II wheel
Larger 0.88 A/R compressor housing volute
Turbine kits interchangeable across GT and GTX 4708, 4709, 4718 and 4720 cores

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 109mm
Compressor trim: 54
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 93mm and 84mm
Turbine trim: 82
Maximum turbocharger speed: 102,500 rpm

Applications

The GTX4709R Gen II Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett matches it to engine size and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 10.0L
Power range: 825 to 1625 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GTX47 turbine kits: 1.08 and 1.23 A/R, T6 inlet, V-band outlet, free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists the GT47 turbine housing kits for this core
Both GTX47 housings Garrett lists are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The speed sensor port accepts only Garrett’s flange-style sensors, 781328-0003 Street or 781328-0004 Pro, sold separately as Garrett speed sensor kits
Garrett states that running above 102,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
The 76mm GTX4709R Gen II is also listed

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
