Is the GTX3584RS Assembly Kit in 1.21 A/R a good single-turbo V8 option?

For V8 engines up to the 5.5L limit Garrett lists, the GTX3584RS Assembly Kit in 1.21 A/R is a logical choice. The largest housing in the range gives a big engine low backpressure at high rpm, and the 67mm compressor is rated to 1000 horsepower, a choke flow figure for potential flywheel horsepower.

Why does a V-band compressor outlet matter?

It decides how the charge pipe connects. The V-band outlet on super core 846098-5002S takes a flanged pipe and V-band clamp instead of a hose coupler at the compressor. The hose outlet version does the same job with a coupler. Wheels, housings and the Garrett rating are identical between the two.

Will the 1.21 A/R housing be slow to spool?

Slower than the 0.83 and 1.01 A/R options, yes, because the larger passage keeps exhaust velocity lower at the turbine wheel. On a big engine that difference shrinks, and the payoff is better breathing at high rpm. Smaller engines are better served by one of the smaller GTX3584RS housings.

What is the maximum speed of the GTX3584RS?

Garrett states a maximum allowable speed of 130,000 rpm and warns that running above it is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure. A Garrett speed sensor in the factory-machined compressor housing port lets the tuner keep the turbocharger inside that limit.

What does the kit contain?

Super core 846098-5002S with a V-band outlet compressor housing, stainless turbine housing kit 740902-0052 in 1.21 A/R, and a gasket kit. Garrett ships the core and housing as separate boxes, and the installer bolts them together and clocks the housing to suit the manifold.

Description

Garrett GTX3584RS Assembly Kit, 1.21 A/R V-Band, V-Band Compressor Outlet

Garrett’s GTX3584RS Assembly Kit with the V-band compressor outlet and 1.21 A/R housing is the high-flow configuration for big engines, combining super core 846098-5002S with stainless turbine housing kit 740902-0052, the largest of the three housings Garrett makes for the GTX3584RS. Garrett rates the turbocharger at 550 to 1000 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines, and this housing keeps backpressure low on a V8 or large six approaching the top of that rating. It runs with an external wastegate, and the compressor outlet takes a V-band pipe. A small engine wanting early boost should choose the 0.83 A/R instead.

Features

RS high-horsepower turbine wheel with a ten-blade Gen II compressor wheel, 67mm inducer
Compact stainless turbine housings made only for the GTX3584RS, designed for tight installations
V-band compressor outlet on a 0.72 A/R compressor housing
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
1.21 A/R free-float housing with V-band joints at both ends, clockable to the manifold and downpipe

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 6762
Compressor inducer and exducer: 67mm and 84mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 68mm and 62mm
Compressor housing: 0.72 A/R, V-band outlet
Turbine housing: 1.21 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet, stainless steel
Wastegate: External (free float)
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 130,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX3584RS super core 846098-5002S with V-band outlet compressor housing
GTX3584RS stainless turbine housing kit 740902-0052, 1.21 A/R
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX3584RS Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 550 to 1000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: V-band turbine flange with an external wastegate

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
An external wastegate is required, because this turbine housing has no internal wastegate
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 130,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX3584RS range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
