Is the GTX3584RS Assembly Kit in 1.21 A/R right for a V8?

It can be. Garrett sizes the GTX3584RS Assembly Kit for engines up to 5.5L, and the 1.21 A/R is the largest housing in the range, so it suits big-displacement engines that make plenty of exhaust flow. A single-turbocharger V8 build aimed at the upper part of the rating is a typical candidate.

What does the 1.21 A/R cost in response?

Boost builds later than with the 0.83 and 1.01 A/R housings, because the larger passage slows exhaust gas less on its way to the turbine wheel. On a large engine the exhaust flow covers much of that, and the reward is lower backpressure and better breathing at high rpm.

Why does the compressor have a hose outlet?

Garrett makes the GTX3584RS super core in hose and V-band outlet versions. This kit uses the hose version, 846098-5001S, which connects to the charge pipe with a coupler and clamps. Builders whose piping ends in a V-band flange should choose the V-band outlet kit with the same 1.21 A/R housing.

What is the maximum turbocharger speed?

Garrett lists 130,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the GTX3584RS and warns that running above it can cause damage and premature failure. The compressor housing has a fully machined speed sensor port that accepts the Garrett speed sensor, sold separately.

How is the horsepower rating worked out?

Garrett calculates the 550 to 1000 horsepower rating strictly from the choke flow of the compressor map, which shows the total capability of the turbocharger as potential flywheel horsepower. Fuel, boost, intercooling and the calibration decide how close a given engine gets.

Description

Garrett GTX3584RS Assembly Kit, 1.21 A/R V-Band, Hose Compressor Outlet

Garrett’s GTX3584RS Assembly Kit with the 1.21 A/R housing and hose compressor outlet is the largest exhaust configuration Garrett offers for its compact 67mm turbocharger, built around super core 846098-5001S and stainless V-band turbine housing kit 740902-0052. Garrett rates the GTX3584RS at 550 to 1000 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines, and the 1.21 A/R is meant for the big end of both: a V8 or large six, or a high-rpm engine where backpressure limits power. Boost comes in later than with the 0.83 or 1.01 A/R, so it is a poor match for a small engine that needs low-speed response.

Features

RS high-horsepower turbine wheel with a ten-blade Gen II compressor wheel, 67mm inducer
Compact stainless turbine housings made only for the GTX3584RS, designed for tight installations
Hose compressor outlet on a 0.72 A/R compressor housing
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
1.21 A/R free-float housing with V-band joints at both ends, clockable to the manifold and downpipe

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 6762
Compressor inducer and exducer: 67mm and 84mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 68mm and 62mm
Compressor housing: 0.72 A/R, hose outlet
Turbine housing: 1.21 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet, stainless steel
Wastegate: External (free float)
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 130,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX3584RS super core 846098-5001S with hose outlet compressor housing
GTX3584RS stainless turbine housing kit 740902-0052, 1.21 A/R
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX3584RS Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 5.5L
Power range: 550 to 1000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: V-band turbine flange with an external wastegate

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
An external wastegate is required, because this turbine housing has no internal wastegate
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 130,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX3584RS range

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
