What makes the GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit in 0.86 A/R different from the 0.64 A/R version?

Only the turbine housing. Both versions of the GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit use the same 50mm super core and an internally gated T25 housing, but the 0.86 A/R flows more exhaust at high rpm and spools somewhat later. It suits larger or higher-revving engines in the 1.4L to 2.5L range.

Is the 0.86 A/R housing enough for 550 horsepower?

Garrett does not publish a power figure per housing. The 550 horsepower ceiling belongs to the compressor and is calculated from choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. A larger A/R generally helps an engine approach the compressor limit, and the 0.86 A/R is the largest internally gated option for this core.

Will this bolt to a T25 manifold?

The inlet is a T25 flange, so a T25 manifold is the intended partner, and the 5-bolt outlet needs a matching downpipe flange. Check clearance, oil lines and compressor plumbing against the Garrett flange diagram, as the new turbocharger may sit differently from the unit it replaces.

Is the core new or a revision?

The 849894-5002S super core in this kit is the Gen II version, which replaces the earlier 836040-5004S. Garrett states that Gen II brings a compressor wheel aero update able to produce up to 20 percent more horsepower than the previous version, plus a fully machined speed sensor port.

How fast can this turbocharger spin?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed of the GTX2867R Gen II at 165,000 rpm and warns that running above it can damage the turbocharger and cause premature failure. A speed sensor fitted to the machined compressor housing port lets the tuner log shaft speed and stay under that limit.

Description

Garrett GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.86 A/R T25 Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit with the 0.86 A/R T25 housing is the largest internally gated combination in the GTX28 Gen II line, pairing the 50mm compressor with a GT28R housing that has a T25 inlet, 5-bolt outlet and its own wastegate. Garrett features this exact T25 0.86 A/R assembly kit on its GTX2867R Gen II page. The larger housing lets a 2.0L to 2.5L engine use more of the 275 to 550 horsepower rating without an external gate, though boost arrives later than with the 0.64 A/R. For a small engine on a T25 manifold that wants low-rpm torque, the smaller housing is the better match.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 50mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.86 A/R housing with T25 inlet, 5-bolt outlet and internal wastegate for a factory-style manifold

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 5047
Compressor inducer and exducer: 50mm and 67mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.86 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Wastegate: Internal
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 165,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2867R Gen II super core 849894-5002S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0004, 0.86 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 275 to 550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: T25 turbine flange; internal wastegate, no external gate needed

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 165,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2867R Gen II range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
