What is the difference between the GTX2867R and the GTX2860R Gen II?

The compressor. The GTX2867R Gen II uses a 50mm inducer and 67mm exducer wheel, against 46mm and 60mm on the GTX2860R Gen II, while both share the 54mm turbine. Garrett rates the GTX2867R at 275 to 550 horsepower, so it suits builds that have outgrown the smaller core.

What do I get in the GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit?

The GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit contains the 849894-5002S super core with compressor housing, the 827690-0001 GT28R turbine housing kit in 0.57 A/R with V-band inlet and outlet, and a gasket kit. The core and housing ship in separate boxes and are assembled by the owner.

Is 0.57 A/R too small for this core?

It depends on the goal. The 0.57 A/R gives the quickest boost of the four housings Garrett lists, which suits a street engine that values response over peak numbers. Builds aimed at the upper end of the 550 horsepower rating usually move to the 0.72 A/R for lower backpressure at high rpm.

What maximum shaft speed does Garrett allow?

Garrett sets 165,000 rpm as the maximum allowable speed for the GTX2867R Gen II, and running faster is at the risk of the owner and can cause damage and premature failure. A speed sensor in the machined compressor housing port is the way to verify it, and the sensor kit is sold separately.

Do I need an external wastegate?

Yes. This 0.57 A/R housing is free float, with no internal wastegate, so the manifold must carry an external wastegate to control boost. A V-band turbine inlet flange is also needed on the manifold to mate with the housing, along with a V-band downpipe at the outlet.

Description

Garrett GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.57 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit puts the larger 50mm compressor of the GTX28 Gen II family on the same 54mm turbine wheel as the GTX2860R, here paired with the 0.57 A/R GT28R V-band housing for an external wastegate. Garrett rates it at 275 to 550 horsepower on 1.4L to 2.5L engines. The small 0.57 A/R is an unusual partner for that compressor: it keeps response sharp on a 1.8L or 2.0L engine, but it can limit exhaust flow at high rpm before the compressor reaches its own limit, so a build chasing 550 horsepower should look at the 0.72 A/R. The super core and housing kit ship separately with a gasket kit.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 50mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.57 A/R free-float housing with V-band joints at both ends, clockable to the manifold and downpipe

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 5047
Compressor inducer and exducer: 50mm and 67mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.57 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Wastegate: External (free float)
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 165,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2867R Gen II super core 849894-5002S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0001, 0.57 A/R, V-band inlet and V-band outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2867R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 275 to 550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: V-band turbine flange with an external wastegate

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
An external wastegate is required, because this turbine housing has no internal wastegate
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 165,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2867R Gen II range

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
