Why is the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit sold in two boxes?

Garrett sells the GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit as a super core and a turbine housing kit packed separately with a gasket kit, the only way it offers this turbocharger. Here that means the 849894-5001S core and the 827690-0004 housing in 0.86 A/R. The installer joins them, which lets one core serve four different exhaust layouts.

Does the 0.86 A/R housing hurt spool?

Compared with the 0.64 A/R, yes, boost comes in somewhat later because the larger housing slows the exhaust less on its way to the turbine. In return the engine sees less backpressure at high rpm, which helps power near redline. It is the better match for larger or higher-revving engines.

Can this replace my T25 flanged turbocharger?

In most cases the flanges line up, since this housing uses a T25 inlet and a 5-bolt outlet with an internal wastegate. Oil lines, compressor plumbing and clearance still need checking against the Garrett flange diagram, and the engine will need a calibration for the larger turbocharger.

What does the 475 horsepower figure mean?

It is the top of the 200 to 475 horsepower range Garrett publishes for the GTX2860R Gen II. Garrett calculates it from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it is potential flywheel horsepower. Reaching it takes fuel, intercooling and boost to match, plus a calibration written for the turbocharger.

Which speed sensor kit fits this turbocharger?

The GT and GTX speed sensor kit, in Street form with a gauge or Pro form for a data logger. Garrett states the GT and GTX kit is not for G Series turbochargers, so the two are not interchangeable. The port is already machined in the Gen II compressor housing and opens with a 5mm Allen key.

Description

Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit, 0.86 A/R T25 Internal Wastegate

Garrett’s GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit with the 0.86 A/R housing is the largest of the four turbine options Garrett lists for this 46mm core, and one of two with a T25 inlet, a 5-bolt outlet and an internal wastegate. It keeps the simple internally gated layout of a T25 swap while giving the exhaust side more room to flow, so it suits a 2.0L to 2.5L engine, or a high-revving smaller engine aiming for the upper part of Garrett’s 200 to 475 horsepower rating. On a small engine that wants boost low in the rev range it is the wrong housing, and the 0.64 A/R is quicker. It ships as a super core plus housing kit for owner assembly.

Features

Gen II compressor wheel with a 46mm inducer, which Garrett says supports up to 20 percent more horsepower than Gen I
Fully machined speed sensor port, plugged from the factory and opened with a 5mm Allen key
0.86 A/R housing with T25 inlet, 5-bolt outlet and internal wastegate for a factory-style manifold

Specifications

Garrett turbo reference: 4647
Compressor inducer and exducer: 46mm and 60mm
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine housing: 0.86 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Wastegate: Internal
Bearing system: 8mm dual ceramic ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 185,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

GTX2860R Gen II super core 849894-5001S with compressor housing
GT28R turbine housing kit 827690-0004, 0.86 A/R, T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Gasket kit

Applications

The GTX2860R Gen II Assembly Kit is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.4L to 2.5L
Power range: 200 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Manifold requirement: T25 turbine flange; internal wastegate, no external gate needed

Notes

Ships as an assembly kit: super core and turbine housing kit in separate boxes, bolted together by the installer
The GT and GTX version of the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 185,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause damage and premature failure
More housing sizes for this core are in the GTX2860R Gen II range

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
