What makes this GT3071R Super Core different from the other two?

The connection size and the heat shroud. Garrett lists this GT3071R Super Core, 836028-5005S, with a 102mm hose and a stepped heat shroud. The 836028-5002S also has a 102mm hose but a square shroud, and the 836028-5001S pairs a 69.85mm hose with a square shroud. Garrett lists the same wheel dimensions for all three.

How much horsepower will a GT3071R make?

Garrett rates the GT3071R at 280 to 480 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 3.5L. Garrett calculates that rating from the choke flow of the compressor map, so it is potential flywheel horsepower, and the real number depends on fuel, boost, intercooling and the tune.

Which turbine housings fit the GT3071R?

Garrett lists GT30 free-float kits with a T3 inlet in 0.63, 0.82 and 1.06 A/R, V-band inlet kits in 0.61, 0.83 and 1.01 A/R, and internally wastegated T3 kits in 0.63, 0.82 and 1.06 A/R. Garrett states the GT30 kits fit GT, GTX Gen I and GTX Gen II 30 Series cores.

Turn 14 calls this a 2.75 inch inlet. Which is correct?

BA follows Garrett. Garrett lists 836028-5005S with a 102mm hose and stepped heat shroud, while the 69.85mm hose, about 2.75 inches, belongs to 836028-5001S. If the existing compressor plumbing needs the smaller connection, ask BA to confirm the part number before ordering.

Is the GT3071R a good choice for a new build today?

It still works well on a 2.5L to 3.5L engine aimed at 350 to 450 horsepower, especially to replace a worn core and keep existing housings. A new build with no parts on hand may get more from a GTX3071R Gen II, which Garrett rates higher on the same GT30 turbine kits.

Description

Garrett GT3071R Super Core, 102mm Hose, Stepped Heat Shroud

Garrett’s GT3071R Super Core with a 102mm hose connection and stepped heat shroud is the GT Series GT30 center section paired with a 53mm compressor, which Garrett rates at 280 to 480 horsepower on engines from 2.5L to 3.5L. Garrett lists three GT3071R super cores, and this is the one with the stepped shroud; the others use a square shroud. It is a good fit for a six-cylinder or a large four that needs quick boost and modest top end. Builders aiming beyond 500 horsepower should step to the GT3076R or a GTX30 Gen II core.

GT Series Construction

The GT3071R uses Garrett’s original GT Series aerodynamics, with a cast compressor wheel that Garrett describes as built for durability and longevity. The rotating group runs on ball bearings in a water-cooled CHRA. Because the core is a GT30 frame, it accepts the same GT30 turbine kits as Garrett’s GTX Gen I and Gen II 30 Series cores.

Features

102mm hose connection with a stepped heat shroud, per Garrett’s reference table
53mm compressor inducer in a 0.50 A/R compressor housing
Takes GT30 free-float and internally wastegated turbine kits

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 53mm and 71mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.50
Turbine inducer and exducer: 60mm and 55mm
Turbine trim: 84
Hose and heat shroud: 102mm hose, stepped heat shroud
Bearing system: Ball bearing, water cooled

Applications

The GT3071R Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 3.5L
Power range: 280 to 480 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GT30 free-float kits: T3 inlet in 0.63, 0.82 or 1.06 A/R; V-band inlet in 0.61, 0.83 or 1.01 A/R
Garrett GT30 wastegated kits: T3 inlet, 5-bolt outlet in 0.63, 0.82 or 1.06 A/R

Notes

The turbine housing is not included
Garrett’s wastegated GT30 turbine assemblies do not include bolts, clamps or an actuator
Turn 14 describes this part as a 2.75in inlet core; Garrett lists 836028-5005S with a 102mm hose and stepped heat shroud, and Garrett’s description is used here
Other GT3071R super cores are listed with a square heat shroud

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
