What is the 0.64 A/R GT2871R Turbocharger best for?

A 2.0L to 2.5L engine that wants the larger 53mm GT2871R compressor with quicker boost than the 0.86 A/R version gives. The GT2871R Turbocharger with this smaller housing suits street and track use where response matters more than reaching the very top of the rating.

How much horsepower is the GT2871R rated for?

Garrett lists 280 to 475 horsepower for engines from 1.8L to 3.0L. That figure comes from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower. The 0.64 A/R housing will limit exhaust flow at high rpm, so expect most builds on it to stop short of the top figure.

Does this GT2871R come with an actuator?

Garrett sources disagree. Turn 14 lists the 480009-9 low boost actuator, which Garrett rates at 0.5 bar, and the Garrett product page sells the GT2871R complete with actuator. The Garrett archive index lists this number as external wastegate without one. We confirm with the distributor before ordering.

What changes between the 0.64 and 0.86 A/R GT2871R?

Only the turbine housing. Both use the 53mm by 71mm compressor wheel and the 54mm by 47mm turbine wheel. The 0.64 A/R builds boost sooner and the 0.86 A/R flows more near redline, so the choice comes down to displacement and the rev range the engine uses.

Will Garrett GT28 housings fit this turbo?

Garrett lists GT28 turbine kits in 0.64 and 0.86 A/R wastegated and 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free float for the GT2871R. Garrett states that the kits are not directly interchangeable with each other, and the exhaust needs modification to fit a different one.

Description

Garrett GT2871R Turbocharger, 0.64 A/R

Garrett’s GT2871R Turbocharger with the 0.64 A/R turbine housing puts the 53mm GT2871R compressor on the smaller GT28 turbine housing, trading some top-end flow for quicker boost than the 0.86 A/R version. Garrett rates the GT2871R at 280 to 475 horsepower on 1.8L to 3.0L engines, and with this housing it suits a 2.0L street or track engine that wants a big compressor without slow spool. Garrett sources describe the wastegate setup for this part number differently, so we confirm it before an order ships.

Applications

The GT2871R Turbocharger is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.8L to 3.0L
Power range: 280 to 475 horsepower (Garrett rating)

Notes

Turn 14 lists this part number with the 480009-9 low boost actuator and Garrett’s product page sells the GT2871R complete with actuator, but Garrett’s archive index lists it as external wastegate without actuator; we confirm the configuration before ordering
Garrett’s GT28 turbine kit table lists its 0.64 A/R wastegated housing with a T25 inlet and 5-bolt outlet
Garrett publishes speed sensor installation instructions for this turbo; the Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
