What is the GT2860RS Super Core with the high boost actuator?

It is the GT2860RS center section that Turn 14 lists with actuator reference 480009-6, described as high boost. Garrett sells the GT2860RS as a complete turbocharger and does not publish this super core on its own page, so it suits an owner replacing the core while keeping the existing turbine housing.

How much power does a GT2860RS make?

Garrett rates the GT2860RS at 250 to 360 horsepower on engines from 1.8L to 3.0L. Garrett calculates the figure from compressor choke flow, so it is potential flywheel horsepower rather than a promise, and the result depends on the engine, its supporting parts and the calibration.

Will it fit my current GT28 turbine housing?

Usually, if the housing came from a GT2860RS. Garrett lists four GT28 kits: 0.64 and 0.86 A/R T25 internally wastegated, and 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free float. Garrett also warns that the kits are not directly interchangeable and can need exhaust changes, so check the flange before ordering.

High boost or low boost actuator: which do I need?

Turn 14 separates two GT2860RS super cores by actuator: 480009-6, described as high boost, and 480009-9, described as low boost. Garrett does not publish spring pressures for them on its GT2860RS page. Pick the version that matches the boost target and confirm the actuator rating with BA before ordering.

Is the GT2860RS Super Core ball bearing?

Yes. Garrett lists a ball bearing configuration with a water-cooled center housing for the GT2860RS. Plan on both oil and coolant lines at installation. The ball bearing cartridge is a large part of why GT Series turbochargers respond faster than older journal bearing designs of the same size.

Description

Garrett GT2860RS Super Core, High Boost Actuator

Garrett’s GT2860RS Super Core is the center section of the GT2860RS, a GT Series ball bearing turbocharger with a water-cooled CHRA that Garrett rates at 250 to 360 horsepower on engines from 1.8L to 3.0L. This version is the one Turn 14 identifies by the 480009-6 high boost actuator. It is a replacement or rebuild route for an owner who already has a GT28 turbine housing in service, and the right size for a modestly tuned four-cylinder. It is too small for a build chasing 450 horsepower, where a GT30 or GTX30 frame makes more sense.

Features

Original GT Series compressor aerodynamics with a 60mm exducer
Ball bearing configuration in a water-cooled center housing
Garrett lists both internally wastegated and V-band free-float GT28 turbine kits for the GT2860RS

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 47mm and 60mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.60
Turbine inducer and exducer: 54mm and 47mm
Turbine trim: 76
Bearing system: Ball bearing, water cooled
Actuator reference: 480009-6, high boost (per Turn 14)

Applications

The GT2860RS Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes the GT2860RS by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 1.8L to 3.0L
Power range: 250 to 360 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett GT28 turbine kits: 0.64 and 0.86 A/R T25 internal wastegate, 0.57 and 0.72 A/R V-band free float

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett also sells the complete GT2860RS turbocharger
Garrett notes that its GT28 turbine kits are not directly interchangeable and may need exhaust modifications to fit
Garrett’s GT2860RS page does not list this super core part number, so confirm actuator and housing compatibility with BA before ordering
A low boost actuator version is also listed

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
