Should I pick the G57-2550 Super Core or the G55-2450?

Both use a 98mm by 133mm compressor in a 0.96 A/R housing. The G57-2550 Super Core adds the 118mm G57 turbine, which Garrett credits with up to 28 percent more flow than GTX, and takes V-band turbine kits only. Choose the G57 when exhaust flow is the limit, and the G55 when a T6 inlet is needed.

How much horsepower can the G57-2550 support?

Garrett rates it at 1400 to 2550 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. That rating is calculated strictly from the choke flow of the compressor map and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so it sets the ceiling of the compressor rather than predicting what an engine will make.

Does the G57-2550 need coolant lines?

No. Garrett states the G57 center housing is air cooled. It still needs a good oil supply: Garrett suggests a -3AN or -4AN feed, says a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice will normally suffice, and recommends 40 to 45 psi at maximum engine speed.

Does the G57-2550 come with a turbine housing?

No. The G57 turbine kits are sold individually in stainless steel, in 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R, each with a V-band inlet and outlet. None of them has an internal wastegate, so the build needs an external wastegate on the exhaust manifold as well.

What is the G57-2550 maximum speed?

Garrett gives 84,000 rpm. Use above that is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure. Because the next G57 sizes up drop to 74,500 rpm, the G57-2550 is the largest G57 with this limit, and a speed sensor in the compressor housing is still recommended.

Description

Garrett G57-2550 Super Core, 98mm Inducer 0.96 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G57-2550 Super Core carries a 98mm inducer and 133mm exducer compressor in a 0.96 A/R housing on the 118mm G57 turbine, rated at 1400 to 2550 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. It is the largest G57 that keeps the 84,000 rpm limit; the 102mm and 106mm cores above it drop to 74,500 rpm. For an engine aimed around 2500 horsepower with plenty of exhaust flow it is the logical G57, and anything under 1400 horsepower falls below its rating.

Center Housing and Bearings

Garrett states the air-cooled, one-piece aluminum center housing reduces super core weight, and it fits a 16mm dual ball bearing cartridge with steel cages for rotor dynamics. The G-Series turbine aerodynamics flow up to 28 percent more than GTX, per Garrett.

Features

98mm by 133mm compressor wheel in a 0.96 A/R housing
Largest G57 inducer that keeps the 84,000 rpm speed limit
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 98mm and 133mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 118mm and 112mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The G57-2550 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1400 to 2550 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G57 1.09, 1.25 and 1.41 A/R free float, V-band inlet and outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G57 turbine housing kits separately
All three G57 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
