Who is the 1.40 A/R V-band G55 Turbine Housing Kit for?

Builders of large engines running a G55 or GXR55 near the top of its rating on a V-band collector manifold. This G55 Turbine Housing Kit has the largest volute in the range, so it flows freely at high rpm but needs plenty of exhaust energy to spool.

What is the difference from part 761208-0074?

Only the inlet. Part 761208-0074 has a T6 inlet flange, while this part has a V-band inlet. Both are 1.40 A/R, stainless, free float and listed for the same G55 and GXR55 cores, so the manifold flange decides which to buy.

Will a 1.40 A/R housing lag on a smaller engine?

Yes, noticeably. The large volute slows exhaust gas entering the turbine, so boost arrives later on an engine that cannot supply much flow. Smaller engines in the 3.0L to 12.0L range Garrett gives are better served by the 1.00, 1.12 or 1.24 A/R.

Which G55 compressor pairs well with this housing?

Garrett does not publish a pairing chart, but the large housing makes most sense with the bigger compressors, such as the G55-2650, G55-2900 or GXR55-98, on engines that can feed them. Check the choice against the Garrett compressor maps and the expected engine airflow.

What controls boost with this housing?

An external wastegate. The housing is free float, with no internal gate, so a wastegate must be placed on the manifold ahead of the turbine. On a large engine making high flow the gate needs a big valve, such as the Garrett GVW-60.

Description

Garrett G55 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.40 A/R V-Band Inlet, Free Float

Garrett’s G55 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.40 A/R with a V-band inlet is the largest, freest-flowing G55 housing in its clamp-on form, with V-band joints at both ends and a stainless free-float casting. It is built for big-displacement engines running the larger G55 and GXR55 compressors, where exhaust backpressure would otherwise cap power, and for fabricated manifolds finished with a V-band collector. It is the wrong choice for a smaller engine that needs boost low in the rev range. If your manifold ends in a T6 flange, part 761208-0074 is the same size in T6.

Big Turbine, Big Flow

The G55 turbine wheel measures 112mm at the inducer and 106mm at the exducer, and Garrett states it flows 15 percent more than the GTX turbine. Paired with the 1.40 A/R volute, it gives the large compressor options, up to the 106mm G55-2900, room to make their rated flow.

Features

Largest A/R Garrett lists for the G55, for minimum backpressure
V-band inlet and outlet, so the housing clocks and clamps at both joints
Free-float stainless casting for an external wastegate
The V-band 1.40 G55 Turbine Housing Kit suits the biggest G55 and GXR55 builds

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
