Should I choose a T6 or a V-band turbine housing for the G55-2250 Super Core?

Choose by manifold. Garrett offers T6 inlet kits for the G55-2250 Super Core in 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R, and V-band inlet kits in 1.24 and 1.40 A/R. A V-band inlet is easier to clock, while the T6 range covers the smaller A/R sizes. All six are free float.

What power does Garrett rate the G55-2250 for?

Garrett rates it at 1000 to 2250 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. Garrett calculates that range from the choke flow of the compressor map and presents it as potential flywheel horsepower, so the actual figure depends on fuel, boost, turbine A/R and the quality of the calibration.

How does the G55-2250 compare with the G55-2100?

It has a 94mm compressor inducer against 91mm, with the same 133mm exducer, 0.96 A/R compressor housing, turbine wheel and turbine kits. Garrett lifts the rating by 150 horsepower to 2250, and both cores share an 84,000 rpm limit.

Does the G55-2250 need coolant lines?

No. Garrett states the G55 center housing is air cooled, so only an oil feed and drain are needed. Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN feed, 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed and an oil restrictor, with the pressure checked after the restrictor.

What happens above the G55-2250 speed limit?

Garrett sets the maximum allowable speed at 84,000 rpm and states that use above it is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure. A compressor housing speed sensor shows the tuner exactly where the shaft is, and Garrett sells it separately.

Description

Garrett G55-2250 Super Core, 94mm Inducer 0.96 A/R Compressor Housing

Garrett’s G55-2250 Super Core carries a 94mm inducer, 133mm exducer compressor wheel in a 0.96 A/R housing on the 112mm G-Series turbine, rated by Garrett at 1000 to 2250 horsepower on 3.0L to 12.0L engines. It sits one step above the G55-2100 and fits high-output builds with the fuel system to feed well over 2000 horsepower. The wide rating window is misleading at the bottom end: a 1000 horsepower engine is far better matched to a smaller compressor.

Center Housing and Turbine

Garrett makes the G55 center housing as a single aluminum piece to reduce weight, and air cools it rather than plumbing it for coolant. The 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing cartridge uses steel cages, and the 90 trim G-Series turbine wheel flows up to 15 percent more than GTX.

Features

94mm by 133mm compressor wheel in a 0.96 A/R housing
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
Stainless steel turbine kits offered with T6 or V-band inlet

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 94mm and 133mm
Compressor housing A/R: 0.96
Turbine inducer and exducer: 112mm and 106mm
Turbine trim: 90
Bearing system: 16mm ceramic dual ball bearing, steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 84,000 rpm

Applications

The G55-2250 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 3.0L to 12.0L
Power range: 1000 to 2250 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G55 1.00, 1.12, 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with T6 inlet, or 1.24 and 1.40 A/R with V-band inlet, all free float with a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G55 turbine housing kits separately
All six G55 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett recommends a -3AN or -4AN oil feed, a restrictor with a 0.040 inch orifice in most cases, and 40 to 45 psi of oil pressure at maximum engine speed
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 84,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. We will continue to do our best to maintain updated prices and we will always continue to offer our price match guarantees as well to ensure our prices are always the best for you. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
