What is the difference between the G50-1700 Super Core and the G47-1650?

The turbine. Both use an 80mm by 109mm compressor wheel, but the G50-1700 Super Core moves to a 99mm turbine inducer and 94mm exducer, against 93mm and 88mm on the G47. Garrett raises the rating to 1700 horsepower and extends the displacement range to 11.0L.

How much power can the G50-1700 make?

Garrett rates it at 875 to 1700 horsepower on 2.5L to 11.0L engines. The number is calculated from compressor choke flow and represents potential flywheel horsepower, so the final output on a given engine depends on fuel, boost, turbine A/R and the calibration behind it.

Which turbine housings fit the G50-1700?

Garrett lists G50 kits in 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R, each with a T6 inlet, a V-band outlet and a free-float layout. They carry their own part numbers for the G50 turbine wheel, so G47 kits with the same A/R figures are different parts and should not be substituted.

Will it fit a GTX Gen II layout?

Yes, in outline. Garrett states the G50 is outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers. Because the G50 T6 turbine housing outlet is 17mm shorter than the GTX part, the downpipe connection may need attention when switching from a GTX to a G50 turbine kit.

How fast can the G50-1700 spin?

Garrett publishes a maximum allowable turbocharger speed of 102,500 rpm for the G50-1700. Operation above that figure is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage or premature failure, and Garrett suggests a compressor housing speed sensor, sold separately, to monitor it.

Description

Garrett G50-1700 Super Core, 80mm Compressor Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G50-1700 Super Core puts an 80mm by 109mm compressor wheel on the larger 99mm G50 turbine, rated at 875 to 1700 horsepower on 2.5L to 11.0L engines. The compressor matches the G47-1650 G4709, so the difference is on the exhaust side: a bigger turbine wheel for engines that make more exhaust flow than a G47 can pass. It suits big-displacement engines where turbine capacity is the limit, while a smaller engine with the same power target is better matched to a G47.

Design and Performance

Garrett states the G-Series turbine aerodynamics deliver up to 23 percent more flow and up to 12 percent better spool than the equivalent GTX Gen II design, estimated from flow, efficiency and inertia. The center housing and backplate are one aluminum piece, and the T6 turbine housing outlet is 17mm shorter than the GTX version.

Features

99mm G-Series turbine wheel, larger than the 93mm wheel in the G47
Outline interchangeable with GTX Gen II turbochargers
One-piece lightweight aluminum center housing and backplate

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 80mm and 109mm
Compressor trim: 54
Compressor housing A/R: 0.88
Turbine inducer and exducer: 99mm and 94mm
Turbine trim: 90
Maximum turbocharger speed: 102,500 rpm
Rotation: Standard

Applications

The G50-1700 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.5L to 11.0L
Power range: 875 to 1700 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G50 0.96, 1.08, 1.23 and 1.39 A/R free float, T6 inlet and V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G50 turbine housing kits separately
All four G50 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 102,500 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
