Is the 1.15 A/R V-band G42 Turbine Housing Kit a good default?

For most single-scroll builds, yes. The 1.15 A/R G42 Turbine Housing Kit balances boost onset against top-end flow, so it suits mid-size engines and smaller engines at high boost. Pick the 1.01 for faster response or the 1.28 for maximum flow at high rpm.

Can I upgrade my G42-1200 to a G-Series II core with this housing?

Yes. Garrett states that G-Series II offers a direct upgrade path for first-generation owners with only a CHRA swap, because it uses the Gen I compressor and turbine housings. A calibration is needed to use the extra flow of the new core.

Which GXR42 cores fit this housing?

Garrett lists three: the GXR42-68, part 934173-5001S, the GXR42-72, part 934173-5002S, and the GXR42-71, part 952766-5006S. Garrett states that turbine housings interchange between similar frame sizes such as G42 and GXR42, so a G42 owner moving to one of these cores keeps this housing.

Is the housing rated for high exhaust temperatures?

Yes, within limits. The G42 housings are stainless steel, and on the G-Series II G42 pages Garrett quotes a rating of up to 1050C, equal to 1922F, for those housings. That is a material limit, so the calibration should still hold exhaust temperature below it to protect the turbine wheel.

What does this kit not include?

It does not include the super core, the compressor housing or a wastegate. Garrett also publishes no hardware list for the kit, so clamps and gaskets should be confirmed before ordering. The turbine wheel sits in the super core, which is sold separately.

Description

Garrett G42 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.15 A/R V-Band Inlet and Outlet

Garrett’s G42 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.15 A/R with V-band connections is the mid-size single-scroll housing for the G42 frame, cast in stainless steel and built for external wastegate control. It completes any of the nine G42, G-Series II and G-XRace cores Garrett lists for it. On a single-entry manifold this is where most engines between roughly 4.0L and 6.0L should begin, or a smaller engine running high boost. It is a step slower to spool than the 1.01 A/R, and it does not fit a divided T4 twin-scroll manifold.

Features

Clamped V-band inlet and outlet
Free-float housing for an external wastegate
1.15 A/R, the middle size in the V-band G42 Turbine Housing Kit range

Specifications

Garrett part number: 757707-0012
A/R: 1.15
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel
Matching turbine wheel: 82mm inducer and 75mm exducer

Garrett G42-1200: 860778-5004S super core, full-size compressor housing
Garrett G42-1200 Compact: 860778-5002S super core
Garrett G42-1325 G-Series II: 938339-5002S super core, 938338-5002S CHRA
Garrett G42-1325C Compact G-Series II: 938339-5001S super core, 938338-5001S CHRA
Garrett G42-1450: 860778-5006S super core
Garrett G42-1585 G-Series II: 938339-5003S super core, 938338-5003S CHRA
Garrett GXR42-68 G-XRace: 934173-5001S super core
Garrett GXR42-71 G-XRace: 952766-5006S super core
Garrett GXR42-72 G-XRace: 934173-5002S super core

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The G42 or GXR42 super core is sold separately
Garrett publishes a maximum turbocharger speed for each core, from 109,000 rpm on the GXR42-68 and GXR42-72 to 120,000 rpm on the G-Series II cores and the GXR42-71; running above it is at the owner’s risk
Other A/R sizes and divided T4 versions are under G42 turbine housings
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
