What is the difference between the G42-1450 Super Core and the G42-1200?

Compressor size. The G42-1450 Super Core uses a 79mm by 98mm compressor wheel against 73mm by 91mm on the G42-1200, while the 82mm turbine wheel is shared. Garrett rates the larger compressor at 525 to 1450 horsepower and lists it for engines up to 8.0L, against 1200 horsepower and 7.0L.

How fast can the G42-1450 spin?

Garrett publishes 114,000 rpm as the maximum allowable turbocharger speed for the G42-1450. Running above it is at the risk of the owner and can result in damage and premature failure, so a compressor housing speed sensor is a worthwhile addition while the boost target is being set.

Does this core include a turbine housing?

No. It ships with its compressor housing and water fittings, and the turbine housing is bought to suit the manifold: 1.01, 1.15 or 1.28 A/R, with a V-band or T4 divided inlet. Garrett makes all six as free-float housings, so an external wastegate is part of the build.

Is there a G-Series II version of the G42-1450?

Yes. The G42-1585 G-Series II uses the same 79mm by 98mm compressor dimensions with new aerodynamics, and Garrett rates it at up to 1585 horsepower. It shares the Gen I compressor and turbine housings, so a G42-1450 build can be updated later with a CHRA swap and a new calibration.

What engines is the G42-1450 sized for?

Garrett sizes it for 2.0L to 8.0L and a range of 525 to 1450 horsepower, calculated from compressor choke flow as potential flywheel horsepower. In practice that points to built sixes and V8 engines running high boost, where the added compressor capacity over the G42-1200 actually gets used.

Description

Garrett G42-1450 Super Core, 79mm Compressor Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G42-1450 Super Core is the largest compressor in the first-generation G42 range, a 79mm inducer and 98mm exducer wheel on the same 82mm turbine as the G42-1200, rated at 525 to 1450 horsepower on 2.0L to 8.0L engines. The larger compressor lifts the power ceiling by 250 horsepower over the 73mm core, so it suits a V8 or a large six that will see high boost. Garrett offers it only with the standard compressor housing, and a build whose target sits closer to 1000 horsepower is likely better served by the G42-1200.

Design and Performance

Garrett describes the G42-1450 as a mid frame with big power. Its turbine wheel uses new aerodynamics for higher efficiency and flow, the compressor housing carries fully machined ports for a speed sensor and a pressure reference, and Garrett lists six stainless steel, free-float G42 turbine kits to complete it.

Features

79mm compressor inducer and 98mm exducer with G-Series aerodynamics for maximum horsepower
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports
Offered with the standard compressor housing only; there is no compact version of this core

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 79mm and 98mm
Compressor trim: 65
Compressor housing A/R: 0.85
Turbine inducer and exducer: 82mm and 75mm
Turbine trim: 84
Bearing system: 10mm ceramic dual ball bearing
Maximum turbocharger speed: 114,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G42-1450 super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The G42-1450 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 8.0L
Power range: 525 to 1450 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett turbine kits: G42 1.01, 1.15 and 1.28 A/R free float, each with a V-band inlet or a T4 divided inlet and a V-band outlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett sells the G42 turbine housing kits separately
All six G42 turbine kits are free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 114,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can result in damage and premature failure
Garrett also makes a G-Series II core with the same wheel dimensions, the G42-1585

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
