What comes with the G40-900 Super Core?

Garrett supplies the G40-900 Super Core as the center housing rotating assembly with the 62mm compressor housing fitted, and lists water fittings as included with the super core. The turbine housing and speed sensor kit are separate, so choose the A/R and inlet style before ordering.

How much power does the G40-900 support?

Garrett rates it at 500 to 900 horsepower on 2.0L to 6.0L engines, based on the choke flow of the compressor map. That makes it a potential flywheel figure; fuel, boost, intercooling and the calibration decide the result, and a large engine will reach the top of the range more easily than a small one.

Which G40 turbine housing should I choose?

Garrett offers 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, each with a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet for twin-scroll manifolds. Smaller A/R values bring boost in sooner and larger ones favor top-end flow; on a 62mm compressor the smaller two sizes keep the response this core is chosen for.

G40-900 or G-Series II G40-1000?

The G40-1000 keeps the 62mm inducer, 88mm exducer, turbine and housings, and adds second-generation compressor aero that Garrett says flows up to 10 percent more at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed, rated to 1000 horsepower. The G40-900 remains a fit for builds that will stay under 900 horsepower.

What is the maximum turbocharger speed?

Garrett lists 125,000 rpm for the G40-900 and warns that running above it can cause damage and premature failure. The compressor housing has a fully machined speed sensor port; Garrett sells the sensor separately, and fitting it lets the tuner hold the turbocharger below the limit.

Description

Garrett G40-900 Super Core, 62mm Standard Rotation

Garrett’s G40-900 Super Core is the 62mm entry to the first-generation G40 frame, rated by Garrett at 500 to 900 horsepower on 2.0L to 6.0L engines. It pairs a 51 trim compressor with the 77mm Inconel G40 turbine on a dual ceramic ball bearing with steel cages, and Garrett credits its compressor aero with up to 32 percent more flow than the GTX4088R. It suits a larger engine that wants a mid-frame turbine with a moderate compressor; a small engine chasing response should look at the G30 or G35 instead.

Swap Between Compressors

Garrett states that the 62mm G40-900 and 71mm G40-1150 are the same physical size, so one can replace the other without reconfiguring other turbo kit components. Both use the same stainless steel turbine housings in four A/R sizes with V-band or T4 divided inlets.

Features

62mm compressor inducer, 88mm exducer, 51 trim, 0.80 A/R compressor housing
Dual ceramic ball bearing with steel cages and a lightweight aluminum backplate
Inconel turbine wheel; G-Series turbine aero flows 16 percent more than the GTX4088R
Fully machined speed sensor and pressure ports; water fittings included

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 62mm and 88mm
Compressor trim and A/R: 51 trim, 0.80 A/R
Turbine inducer and exducer: 77mm and 70mm
Turbine trim: 84
Bearing system: Dual ceramic ball bearing with steel cages
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm
Rotation: Standard

What’s Included

G40-900 standard rotation super core with compressor housing fitted
Water fittings

Applications

The G40-900 Super Core is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 6.0L
Power range: 500 to 900 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Standard-rotation turbine kits: Free float in 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, with V-band or divided T4 inlet

Notes

The turbine housing is not included; Garrett lists G40 turbine housing kits for standard rotation
Every turbine housing Garrett lists for this core is free float, so an external wastegate is required
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
