Does the G40-1000 G-Series II CHRA include a compressor housing?

No. The CHRA is the center housing rotating assembly with the shaft, both wheels and the bearing system, but no compressor or turbine housing. Garrett sells the G40-1000 with its compressor housing as a super core. Owners of a first-generation G40 can reuse their own compressor cover.

What power will the G40-1000 support?

Garrett rates the G40-1000 G-Series II CHRA at 500 to 1,000 horsepower on 2.0L to 6.0L engines. Garrett calculates the number from compressor choke flow and presents it as potential flywheel horsepower, so the result depends on fuel, boost, the turbine housing A/R and the calibration.

Should I pick the G40-1000 or the G40-1250?

Both use the same 77mm G40 turbine. The G40-1000 has a 62mm compressor inducer and a 1,000 horsepower rating, which keeps the compressor efficient on engines that run moderate boost. The G40-1250 moves to a 71mm inducer and a 1,250 horsepower rating for engines that need much more airflow.

Which G40 turbine housing fits this core?

Garrett lists eight G40 turbine kits: 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R, each with a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet and a V-band outlet. All of them are free float housings, so boost is controlled by an external wastegate on the manifold.

Is a tune needed after fitting this core?

Yes. Garrett states that a calibration is required to take advantage of the increased compressor flow. The tuner should also keep the shaft below the 125,000 rpm limit Garrett sets for this frame, and a speed sensor in the compressor housing, sold separately, is the reliable way to do it.

Description

Garrett G40-1000 G-Series II CHRA, 62mm Compressor

Garrett’s G40-1000 G-Series II CHRA brings the large-frame 77mm G40 turbine together with a 62mm compressor inducer, sold as the bare center housing rotating assembly. Garrett rates it at 500 to 1,000 horsepower on engines from 2.0L to 6.0L. The relatively small compressor on a big turbine is the point of this core: it suits a V8 or a large six that needs exhaust flow at 1,000 horsepower but wants the compressor to stay efficient at lower boost. Builders who need more airflow from the same frame should look at the 71mm G40-1250.

Large Frame G-Series II

Garrett states the G-Series II compressor aerodynamics give up to 10 percent more flow than Gen I at peak pressure ratio and turbo speed. The one-piece center housing and backplate reduce failure points, the twin piston rings on each side of the shaft reduce the chance of oil leakage, and the V-band joint between center housing and turbine housing allows 360 degree orientation.

Features

77mm inducer, 70mm exducer turbine wheel with a trim of 84
62mm compressor inducer on an 88mm exducer, trim 51
Reuses Gen I G40 compressor and turbine housings

Specifications

Compressor inducer and exducer: 62mm and 88mm
Compressor trim: 51
Turbine inducer and exducer: 77mm and 70mm
Turbine trim: 84
Maximum turbocharger speed: 125,000 rpm
Matching super core: 938272-5001S

Applications

The G40-1000 G-Series II CHRA is not vehicle specific. Garrett sizes it by engine and output:

Engine displacement: 2.0L to 6.0L
Power range: 500 to 1,000 horsepower (Garrett rating)
Garrett G40 turbine kits: 0.85, 0.95, 1.06 and 1.19 A/R free float housings with V-band inlets or divided T4 inlets, all with V-band outlets

Notes

Compressor and turbine housings are not included; the G40-1000 super core includes its compressor housing
Every G40 turbine kit Garrett lists is a free float design, so an external wastegate is required
Garrett states that running above 125,000 rpm is at the owner’s risk and can cause premature failure
The Garrett speed sensor kit is sold separately

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
