Which G38 Turbine Housing Kit A/R suits a mid-size engine?

Usually the 0.95. Garrett offers the G38 Turbine Housing Kit in 0.85, 0.95 and 1.06 A/R, and the middle size gives a single-scroll engine in the middle of the 2.0L to 5.5L range a sensible balance of boost onset and top-end flow. Check the choice against the Garrett flow maps.

Will the housing work with the hose outlet GXR38-64?

Yes. The compressor outlet style does not affect the turbine side. Garrett lists this housing for the GXR38-64 in both the V-band compressor outlet version, 934173-5008S, and the hose outlet version, 934173-5009S, as well as for the G-Series II G38-1000, part 938272-5003S.

Does it come with the turbine wheel?

No. The turbine wheel, shaft and bearings are part of the super core, sold separately. This kit is the outer turbine housing that bolts around that wheel. For G38 cores the wheel has a 74mm inducer and a 66mm exducer, which this housing is machined to suit.

Is there a T4 version of this housing?

Yes. Garrett makes each G38 A/R with either a V-band inlet or a divided T4 inlet. This listing is the V-band inlet at 0.95 A/R, intended for single-entry manifolds. A twin-scroll manifold with a T4 flange should use the divided T4 version of the same size.

What limits should I respect when tuning?

Garrett publishes a maximum turbocharger speed of 125,000 rpm for both G38 cores and warns that exceeding it can cause damage and early failure. A speed sensor in the compressor housing port lets the tuner log shaft speed. Garrett power ratings come from compressor choke flow and show potential flywheel horsepower.

Description

Garrett G38 Turbine Housing Kit, 0.95 A/R V-Band Inlet and Outlet

Garrett’s G38 Turbine Housing Kit in the 0.95 A/R V-band version gives a single-scroll G38 build its exhaust side: stainless steel, clamped V-band joints at the inlet and outlet, and no internal wastegate. It fits the G38-1000 G-Series II and the GXR38-64 G-XRace super cores, which Garrett sizes for 2.0L to 5.5L engines. This middle A/R is where most single-scroll G38 setups should start, trading a small amount of low-rpm response against the 0.85 for steadier flow at the top. A builder on a twin-scroll manifold should look at the T4 version instead.

Features

Clamped V-band inlet and outlet, clockable during mock-up
External wastegate layout with no flapper or actuator in the housing
Mid-size 0.95 A/R in the G38 Turbine Housing Kit lineup
Stainless steel casting, as on every Garrett G38 housing

Specifications

Garrett part number: 757707-0038
A/R: 0.95
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Divided inlet: No
Wastegate: External (free float)
Material: Stainless steel
Matching turbine wheel: 74mm inducer and 66mm exducer

Applications

This G38 Turbine Housing Kit fits the super cores Garrett lists below:

Garrett G38-1000 G-Series II: 938272-5003S super core
Garrett GXR38-64 G-XRace: 934173-5008S super core with V-band compressor outlet, 934173-5009S with hose outlet

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this housing has no internal wastegate
The G38-1000 or GXR38-64 super core is sold separately
Garrett sets the maximum turbocharger speed of both listed cores at 125,000 rpm and states that running above it is at the owner’s risk
Other A/R sizes and T4 inlet versions are under G38 turbine housings
Garrett does not publish a hardware list for this kit; confirm clamps and gaskets before ordering

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
