Is the 1.01 A/R G35 Turbine Housing Kit right for a single turbo V8?

For many 4.5L to 5.5L V8 builds running one G35-1050 or G35-990, yes. The 1.01 A/R G35 Turbine Housing Kit keeps back pressure low at the power levels those engines reach, and they make enough exhaust to spool it. Smaller engines usually respond better with the 0.83 A/R.

What is the difference from the 1.01 A/R T3 G35 housing?

Only the inlet. This housing has a V-band inlet for fabricated manifolds with a clamp flange, while part 740902-0107 has a T3 inlet for bolted manifolds. Both share the A/R, the V-band outlet, the free-float layout and the list of G35 cores Garrett gives for them.

Would the internally wastegated 1.01 A/R housing suit me better?

It might if your manifold has no external gate. Garrett makes a 1.01 A/R V-band G35 housing with an internal wastegate, part 740902-0111, for standard-rotation cores. This free-float housing suits builds that already run, or prefer, an external wastegate on the manifold.

What does A/R actually describe?

A/R is the ratio between the cross-sectional area of the volute passage and the radius from the turbine centerline to the center of that area. A smaller ratio speeds exhaust onto the wheel for quicker spool, and a larger one, such as this 1.01, passes more flow with less back pressure at high rpm.

Is this standard or reverse rotation?

Standard rotation, listed by Garrett for standard G35 cores only. The reverse-rotation version with the same A/R and V-band layout is part 740902-0114, which pairs with this housing on a mirrored twin-turbo engine running two G35 cores. Each volute only suits its own direction of rotation.

Description

Garrett G35 Turbine Housing Kit, 1.01 A/R V-Band Free Float

Garrett’s G35 Turbine Housing Kit in 1.01 A/R V-band is a high-flow free-float housing for standard-rotation G35 cores, listed by Garrett as part 740902-0104 for the G35-900, G35-1050 and G-Series II G35-990. It is sized for engines that make a lot of exhaust: a 4.5L to 5.5L V8 on a single G35-1050 or G35-990, or a smaller engine built to rev hard, where lower back pressure lets the engine carry power to the redline. A 3.0L street build will find it slow to come on boost and is better served by the 0.83 A/R.

Carrying Power to the Redline

The 1.01 A/R gives exhaust more room on its way to the 68mm G35 turbine wheel, so pressure between the engine and the turbine stays lower at high load. That helps volumetric efficiency where large engines make their peak power. The V-band inlet suits fabricated manifolds, and an external wastegate holds boost.

Features

1.01 A/R for high exhaust flow
V-band inlet and outlet
Free float, clockable on the center housing joint
Stainless steel construction rated to 1050C (1922F)

Specifications

Garrett part number: 740902-0104
A/R: 1.01
Turbine inlet and outlet: V-band and V-band
Wastegate: External (free float)
Rotation: Standard
Material: Stainless steel, rated to 1050C (1922F)

Applications

Garrett lists this G35 Turbine Housing Kit for these standard-rotation super cores, rated from 550 to 1050 horsepower on 2.0L to 5.5L engines:

Garrett G35-900: 880695-5001S
Garrett G35-990 G-Series II: 934123-5001S
Garrett G35-1050: 880695-5002S

Notes

An external wastegate is required, because this free-float housing has no internal wastegate
The G35 super core is sold separately
Standard rotation; the reverse-rotation 1.01 A/R V-band housing is part 740902-0114
Garrett lists an internally gated 1.01 A/R V-band G35 housing as part 740902-0111

Additional Information

The Bulletproof Automotive website contains many thousands of products purchased in multiple different currencies. All of the prices are entered manually and accurately at the time of entry. Due to the consistently fluctuating international exchange rates, at times prices may not be able to be honored at their original intended rate. Rest assured that any order you place on line will be at zero risk to you in this area. If in the event your order cannot be fulfilled at the original intended website price we will offer you a 100% refund, no questions asked. Shipping Policy

Items that are in stock in the US, either at Bulletproof’s warehouse or at a supplier’s warehouse, are generally delivered within 7-10 days. Special order items from overseas take considerably longer. As a courtesy Bulletproof offers delivery estimates to our customers which take into consideration manufacturer availability and shipping schedule. These estimates represent our best guess based on previous orders from the manufacturer and do not in any way imply a guaranteed delivery window. Many manufacturers work in a “just in time” inventory system and often take 2-20+ weeks to produce an item once an order is submitted. All deliverable items are then sent to our Japanese warehouse. Bulletproof ships a minimum of one full ocean freight container every month from Japan, oftentimes more than one a month. Ocean freight takes an average of 4 weeks. Typically it breaks down to one week in Japan for paperwork and customs, two weeks by boat and one week in US customs/clearance. Due to the wide number of variables between manufacturer and shipping schedules, delivery estimates are simply just that – estimates. We attempt to estimate conservatively and we usually deliver faster than our estimates suggest. It is not Bulletproof’s policy to guarantee delivery time of any special order item, this is impossible for us to do. By ordering you acknowledge that there is no required delivery ETA and an order may not be canceled or altered due to manufacturing or shipping delays, all ETA’s are provided as a best guess only. BP Pricing Difference

We do pricing a little differently on our JDM brands and we believe in making things simple and clear. No hidden fees or surcharges. Every price you see includes the shipping cost to our office in Los Angeles, California and all the associated taxes/duties/fees for bringing the products into the US. The only shipping you ever pay is from our facility in the US to your location. Be wary of resellers that don’t include the cost of international shipping in their pricing on JDM parts. While we believe we’ll always have the lowest all-in price on JDM products, we offer a price match guarantee for all authentic parts purchased from authorized dealers as well. For many international customers, it’s much more affordable to ship from the USA than from Japan directly, as the air freight and ocean freight costs are typically much less. However, for customers looking to ship directly from Japan outside of North America, or domestically in Japan, we can provide pricing specifically for that scenario. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any pricing questions or concerns. Please email us at sales@bulletproofautomotive.com with any inquiries.
